Please please put some ads up and call your shelters and vets offices. This could very well be somebody's loved pet that got out and they have been searching for. This dog could belong to a family with a child who is crying every night asking where there beloved dog is. All it takes is a few hours out in the woods to look like a mess and have issues pop up. This dog could have ran out the front door when it was opened and gotten out and not been found for awhile that doesn't mean it is unloved. How would you feel in this situation? I could never just keep someone's pet not looking for there owner because I would not want someone to do that to me.

I know it's terrible, in my opinion keeping a dog and never looking for there owner is like stealing a dog.

One thing you can do is post a found dog ad somewhere with a short description for example:
Female dog found, vet estimates ___ months old, coat colors Black and Tan. If this sounds like your dog please email pictures to xxx@something.com.

That way you would get your proof that she was loved and cared for. What loving pet owner doesn't have millions of pictures of their babies, right? I know I'm guilty if that! They could positively ID the pup and you would have helped someone reunite with their baby as you were when Nico went missing.

The yard guys let my foster Olivia out monday evening when we were gone. Luckily some kids found her and another lady kept her until we found her. She's been with us since january and is loved very much. When we went to get her the lady had bathed her and she'd lost weight since she wouldn't eat. She's a scrawny little thing anyway. She had been to the groomer monday morning so appearances are frequently deceiving. Please check the shelters and see if she's chipped. It's easy to judge. I'm unfortunately frequently guilty also. if they really don't want her maybe they will let you keep her.

Thanks for the info. I have done just that. We live in a small town and the vet has all of my information if anyone has lost their dog. She had no chip or tag. As far as her health is concerned I was only going by what the vet said...and she is flea ridden and losing her hair. We are doctoring her up until she is claimed. Had I not gotten her she would have been ran over. She isn't eating too well but she has been resting beautifully. Thanks for all of your concern and support. Please do not worry. We are not dog thieves. We just want the dog healthy and taken care of.

Update...

I had a woman ride up into my yard on a bicycle and tell me the dog was hers. She kept calling it a "he" and couldn't tell me the breed...only that it was a small dog with different colors. She has no pictures. Sigh...this is going to be a process!!!

And it the owner loves the dog they will be looking for it as well. Best of luck to everyone involved and thank you for caring enough to pull this little angel out of harms way.

This makes me happy. It sure didn't sound like you were looking from what you originally posted. Maybe I read it wrong, but that was my impression. One last advice and I promise to leave you alone. I know you're vetting the doggy out of your own pocket, but if and when the owner is found, don't expect to be reimbursed. I know that sucks, but it's a possibility. I remember this happening to someone a long time ago. They found a pup, vetted it, and then found the owners. That person was so upset she didn't get reimbursed for her expenses.

You know I do believe I was just attacked. The good for you meant. Good for you for taking care of it and not allowing anything happen to her. I once had a beagle and a yellow lab come to my house for a day. Fed them both but had no where to keep them. By the next morning they had both killed on the highway. Some would say why did you not tie them up others they were not yours to keep she saved the fur baby from being killed. I am sure no one would steal a dog as I feel she has been a blessing for the poor baby when it needed someone the most. Why bash someone who is trying to help. Same way you did another person just today. Is it better to take the lost dogs to animal control to be put down? I am just saying I think they are good people tring to help

This happens more than you would ever think it would and it's very sad. There have been stories on YT where members have looked for years and it turned out that their dogs were picked up by strangers and kept....YEARS

This woman is a YT member and has a FB page. Her dogs were missing for 18 months and it took the police to get them back. It was all over the news when they were finally found.

https://www.facebook.com/Findbaxterandcooper

There are so many FB pages for lost dogs all over the country and people are always offering to take lost dogs for their own. These dogs have homes and families looking for them. I was looking on CL yesterday and there was a family posting a $1,000 reward for their lost YorkiePoo and the picture was of the granddaughter with the missing dog.

Did you happen to read the link that I posted about AnnaBell? She was a beautiful dog and after only ONE DAY of being lost she looked like she was a homeless street dog.

I know all about stray dogs. I worked with a shelter and I worked at a vet clinic before is retired so I am not a kid. You don't have to tell me . I know people steal dogs but in this case i do believe she was only trying to help the dog. I want to say thank you for helping the poor baby. If there is an owner trying to find her. They will show up.
