| ![]() Unfortunately my Teasell is highly allergic to some of the vaccinations. Puppy shots included and also rabies. The first puppy shot she went into anaphylactic shot. Thank God I hadn't left the vets. She actually reacted to the Rabies shot even with Benadryl on board. Got almost all the way home on that. So now they give her some sort of shot prior to the Vaccination That first one was so scary and now I am this point of worrying again as she'll need a Rabies shot this year. Please be very aware of what can happen it's your babies life. |

| ![]() The internet makes the rabies vaccine sound scarier than it is. In practice less dogs have serious reactions to it than DHPP. I understand wanting to hold off, but the older the pup gets and the more exposure to the outdoors and/or bats in the attic, etc. the more pup is at risk of infection, quarantine, and euthanasia. Don't be lulled into a false sense of security that a young dog won't be taken away over lack of this vaccine. Even play biting a vet or tech can get the dog warden involved if the pup is older and/or there is any concern.

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() My yorkie is a bit big although she was the runt. She's 5.5lbs at 4 months. She just got her rabies shot three days ago along with some other core vaccinations. She had no bad reactions at all. It's like it never happened. But I do think your puppy is too small because when I was making the appointment with pet smart they told me even though she was of age it depended on her weight because she was 2.8lbs when they last saw her. I would probably wait till a year old or 3.5lbs which ever comes first |

| ![]() my Niko was 3.5 pounds and 5 1/2 months old when he got his first rabies shot. The poor baby was sick for a week. All he did was sleep and cry. Anything he ate he threw up. One of my other ones had a seizure. I'd never give another of my babies a rabies vaccine so young. Benadryl helps but it's not worth the risk when they're so young. |
