The internet makes the rabies vaccine sound scarier than it is. In practice less dogs have serious reactions to it than DHPP.
I understand wanting to hold off, but the older the pup gets and the more exposure to the outdoors and/or bats in the attic, etc. the more pup is at risk of infection, quarantine, and euthanasia.
Don't be lulled into a false sense of security that a young dog won't be taken away over lack of this vaccine. Even play biting a vet or tech can get the dog warden involved if the pup is older and/or there is any concern.
