| My Yorkie is suddenly limping Last night while outside my Yorkie suddenly stopped using his back, left leg. He won't put any weight on it, nor does he respond to any touching on that leg. I took him to the vet and they did x-rays, thinking he has a torn ligament or something like that. The x-ray didn't show any tears. He doesn't act like he is in pain, quite the opposite, I can mess with his feet and even when I apply a lot of pressure, he doesn't respond to it. He is 12-1/2 years old and I am concerned he had some sort of stroke. While I am waiting on blood tests, has anyone seen this before? Any ideas? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and WELCOME to YT ! That's really odd there was nothing on xray...they did xray the hip and everything? And he checked the patella to make sure it wasn't luxating? Otherwise, I'd be worrying about the back - and the vet should do full range of motion movements for the entire back and neck to see if something is off there. With back problems, some dogs will lift a leg bc they're feeling radiating nerve pain.

| Update Yes, they did several x-rays and said they saw what appeared to be an old injury of the ligament and as there was not any swelling or inflammation in the area, they were sure this was not a new injury. He had a similar issue a month ago on the other leg, that wasn't as severe and he was walking fine the next day. I took him to the vet anyway and they said at that time it was neurological based on the tests of paw positioning and he did not correct the flipped paw on his back, right leg. This time it is his left leg and it kind of flops around when he walks. It has been several days now and he has started using the leg more and more. I have even been doing some massage on the leg. It doesn't feel any different than the other leg and he doesn't show any signs of pain when I am massaging either leg. The vet keeps trying to get me to bring him in for a $2K surgery. I am really disappointed in their approach to treatment. |
