| Hi JoeAn, welcome to Yorkietalk! Congrats on you new fur baby. I get my Yorkies the Wellness Petite Treats soft mini bites or the Wellness just for puppy treats. For toys, mine like the crinkle kind, squeak toys, tennis balls that squeak, and rope toys. For potty training, do you want to train her inside or outside?

| Welcome! How exciting. There are several good books on Yorkies. One is : HOW TO HOUSE BREAK YOUR DOG IN 7 DAY by Shirlee Kalstone. But done take the 7 days literally, but there are great tips in there!

| Joeann, welcome to you and your new pup. I know you are excited! Can't wait to see your precious little one. Your YY's are on the way . My three are potty pad trained. I use washables - I got mine free from a company that supplies hospitals. They are fantastic and save a bunch of $$ and hopefully I am doing my small part to help the environment. There are a lot of different ideas about potty training. Some crate train, others don't. I'm on the "don't" team. I just feel like it's wrong to put a pup in a cage for hours. My home is as Yorkie proof as I can make it and with little ones running around the house, I do confine them to one room which has potty pads and is extra safe. I'm sure you will get a lot of fantastic ideas! |

For Leroy, I trained him to go both inside and outside. Like chattiesmom mentioned I also didn't crate train Leroy. I started training him inside first by putting a training pad down and whenever he would go on it, I would praise him with words and sometimes by giving him treats and made a big deal when he went on the pad. When he didn't pee on it and peed on the floor, I would just ignore him.

| Your welcome. Don't worry, you'll see it will go well we didn't mean to discourage you on the crate training, for some people and their Yorkies it really works well. Leroy just hated his crate and the first night he cried, howled, and got all wet with his water that I had to go dry him up. I ended up giving him free roam in my house during the day, with supervision of course (which I've read can be bad to give too much freedom but he did ok for the most part) and at night he slept in a carrier that was placed on top of my bed. Yes try something and see how it goes when you get her.
