Senior Yorkie Talker | Is My Yorkie A Real Yorkie? My yorkie was born 12/17/13. He is 10 pounds now. Is that normal? He's almost 5 months in one more week. He's CKC registered. The breeder stated he's a pure breed yorkie. I have his papers too, which confirms that he is. Should I get a blood test done? How accurate are those test? | Hi welcome to yorkietalk the weight of a dog doesn't say what breed he or she is or what breed they're not. There are Yorkies who are on the bigger side and they're still purebreed. If you want to know for sure you could have your vet do a DNA test or you could buy one online.

| Yeah, with so many people breeding Yorkies these days -- many of whom should not be breeding -- it's easy for them to get large or out of standard. While the 'standard' is 7lbs or less, weight alone does not determine whether a dog is purebred. My boy is 17lbs, lol... oh I see your in MD too! Yay for another Maryland "teapot" Yorkie. hehe.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Oh wow! That makes sense. You have a big baby. He is to cute. Is there a way to determine how big he will get or do I just need to see what happens, especially since the breeder doesn't know the correct size of her yorkies. smh and lol |

| Well Jackson was 6lbs at 12 weeks. By 6 months he was 12lbs and maintained at that until about a year old. He filled out a lot between 1 1/2 - 2 and maintains around 17lbs now at 5 1/2.

| Unless it's the Canadian Kennel Club which I'm guessing it's not he could be a mix because besides the Candian kennel Club the only other reputable registry is the AKC the others you could register anything with and say it's a pure bred when it's not. There are bigger pure bred yorkies though so he could be. My yorkies is about 17 pounds.

Senior Yorkie Talker | I'm sorry for your lost. I appreciate the information. I know losing your lil one was hard on you and your family. I'm glad you don't mind giving advice though. I hope you will decide in the near future to get another one. |
