| All you're gonna do is make him scared of the pen if you use it as a form of punishment. You should have tried crate training to teach him that he only has to pee and poo in a designated spot. Last edited by JuanRamos; 05-04-2014 at 12:52 PM. |

| Lawman, are you familiar with 'submissive peeing'? If you spank your dog and yell, you risk having your dog becoming so scared that he will become a submissive peer. Some have such problems that they pee just seeing their humans. Also, dogs do not have padding on their butts like humans, and they have tails, so you risk injuring him. Belly bands -- as Lynzy suggested. These are great backup for dogs who mark indoors.

| Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Come over here, Lawman. Let me smack you across the nose. Did you learn anything? Do you understand why I am smacking you? Nope? Didn't think so. Just as you have no clue as to why I did what I did, neither does your dog.

| Yes, submissive peeing can be the result of excitement. It's sad though when it is the result of being scared of being spanked.

| Exactly do you want your dog to turn aggressive and protect himself the only way he has?

| Yeah Callie did this as a puppy and then she would roll over in it. She did it with people and some dogs. I am so glad she out grew that.

| Getting him neutered will help a lot but you will still need to use a good enzyme cleaner in the house to remove the smells. Even if you cannot smell it they can. I grew up where spanking a child was the approved method also but spanking a dog is a whole different thing. Dogs learn aggression that way and I am sure you don't want a biter on your hands.

| Update: Ditto has not had a single accident since I last disciplined him on May 4, 2014. He was neutered on May 13, 2014 and has not heisted his leg inside since being neutered. He still heists outside but that's okay with me..I'm just very glad he finally started peeing outside. Before, he would not go outside no matter how long we stayed out..He would immediately go to his pen after we came in and pee or poop.. His neutering was difficult and his stitches are causing him quite a bit of discomfort. His testicles did not drop and the vet had to cut him very high in two places to get them..He is quite a champ and I'm comfortable that he has this house breaking stuff all figured out... |
