Can you post the articles? I fed my Ole girl raw for years and am feeding Gunner raw. The only risk is to us humans handling raw meat. Dogs are carnivores. You feed 60-80% lean meat, 10% bone and 10% liver or such. Dogs are not made to digest anything other than meat and bone. If you feed whole fruits and vegetables they come out looking the same as they did when they went in. My poodle was healthier when I fed her raw than when I fed her kibble. She had seizures most of her life, but when I started feeding raw they went away. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet, one can read bad about both sides but try it before you say it is bad?

I feel it's important to educate about things. I would never ever feel safe trying raw feeding. Dogs can get salmonella and other things from raw meat it's a myth that they can't. Dogs who are fed raw can spread things to other humans and it's not recommended that if an animal is fed raw they be around old people and baby's. Raw isn't something I'd personally do either, but I respect your opinion for feeding the diet you feel is optimal.

Lots of dogs do GREAT on raw, so if anyone is thinking about it, but do be careful what you read on the internet, and if there's any signs of blood in stool, vomiting, etc, don't hesitate to bring to vet and/or stop. I think a lot of times folks think magic is going to happen when you switch to raw, and sometimes it does, but... sometimes it doesn't, and things get written off as 'normal' when IMO they're not. Vomiting, blood, hair loss, weight loss/gain, cracked teeth, etc.

Not trying to be a big debbie downer! But just wanted to post my thoughts/opinions as well.

Oh, I just started feeding Farmina. We'll see how it goes, but their quality control seems to be in check, dehydrated meat vs. meal, low ash content, extremely palatable (according to everyone I know who got samples), large kibble size (this could be a plus to some), no vegetable protein boosters.

I e-mailed back and forth for a bit to find out more info and they answered all of my questions in depth. But basically they have 6 staff veterinarians on staff and 20 other professionals with advanced scientific degrees. Two of their people are fellows to the European equivalent of the AVMA. They do extensive testing with the University of Milan and Naples. The company has been around since 1965 and is owned by the Russo family. The food we sampled was tested for 24 months in three published studies for safety before they were put on the market.

So I'm hoping it works. Jackson really loves it so time will tell.

I have nothing against feeding a good quality kibble... I fed my poodle kibble for years till she got sick and started having seizures. We find out it was from the kibble. I joined a group of raw feeding pet owners and after months of reading decided to try it. I find there is much more success feeding a raw diet than feeding kibble. My dog lived to be 16, would she have lived that long on kibble? I don't know for sure, but I think not. Other than congestive heart failure, she was pretty darned healthy. I've seen dogs go from almost dead to healthy in 3 months once they got off the kibble and on raw. I'm not saying all dogs will be like this, but a majority with allergies and other health issues do. All my meat is frozen until fed, the likelyhood of getting salmonella is very rare. You have a better chance of getting it from handling kibble. I wear gloves when handling any meat and wash my hand thoroughly after.
I have a friend that has a English Bulldog that got salmonella and never had raw in his life. There are many pro's and con's. I will keep feeding the raw since I've seen the benefits on the health of my dog.

I don't think you can say there is much more success in feeding raw then kibble one because many many more feed kibble then those who feed raw and have VERY healthy dogs and two there are so many dogs on prescription kibble that has saved there lives! Salmonella and other illness passed from raw meet are not as rare as you think. Yep when not using a kibble that has good quality control it can have salmonella to but I think homecoking is the best when done with a recipe from a vet nutritionist and with a supplement and I have heard many many amazing stories of dogs with issues switching to homecoking and getting so much better and without the risks of raw.

I will respectfully agree to disagree. Vet nutritionist are paid by the dog food companies (most of them anyways). The vitamins you feed your dog come from China. I will continue to feed Gunner raw and some kibble when he wants. He is 8 months old, never been sick, was accidentally injured by my husband but is fine now. I belong to at least 5 raw feeding groups and never hear about the allergy and diarrhea problems I read about on other sites.

No vet nutritionist are not paid by dog food company's where did you get that from? You can't say where the vitamins I get my dog are from because you simply don't know. Wether you have heard it or not it does happen. Just getting angry and attacking doesn't show your side of things it just shows how little you know. I have heard of people complaining that they feel dog food company's pay for regular vets nutrition information but never heard that about an actual vet nutritionist and it made me laugh. But then makes me sad how uninformed people are.

You are misinformed about vet nutritionists. Many of them are independent or work for universities. I know that Dr Remillard who I use is beholden to no pet food company. I'm sorry but raw fed dogs have medical problems just like any other dogs.

By the way, I'm glad that Gunner has never been sick in his long 8 months of life. My Barney wasn't sick until age 5, then he wasn't sick again until age 10. He's now almost 14 years old and would give your Gunner a run for his money! Some of them are very hearty little dogs! By the way, he's eaten grains his whole life, including the dreaded corn!

I feed wellness. My poodle breeder who shows her poodles told me to feed my Yorkies the complete health chicken base food. My Yorkies coats are beautiful and they love the food. I mix in a little chicken stew made by Wellness. It is a really good dog food.
