The Frontline has been 100% against ticks for us, but we picked up a couple of fleas at the park the last 2 summers. We did not get infested, but Teddy is super sensitive to fleas.

I don't know if you can split Advantix. I have not used it. You could ask your vet.

We tried Advantage once, a different product, and I ended up washing it off Teddy immediately. It must have been burning because he went crazy trying to scratch at it.

Yeah I wonder if advantage is still a good product around here (Philadelphia) I have heard that fleas are becoming resistant to Frontline around here. I decided to go with advantix. I put it on him today. Bought the correct amount. I couldn't justify cutting corners financially with something that I wasn't sure how he'd react to yet. Problem though.... I put it on him but it seems to have gotten more on one side of his back than the other. Is this still OK?

I've been wondering about this too. We live in apartments and the grass here seems to have fleas.

I've been picking them out every day after taking him out to potty but I need something to help me keep them off him. Has anyone ever purchased the shampoo bars on etsy that say they are flea repellent?

Thats why I dont like topica's. I know a bunch of people that used to use them but switched to pills because the topical's leak all over their dogs and then they can lick it or rub it off. I chose to go with sentinal which is a pill form flea and tick and heartworm prevention.

As far as it being on one side more than the other, its fine, the skin absorbs the oil into the body either way.

Im in the Philly burbs and both vets I spoke with said they no longer recommend Frontline or Advantage bc they just aren't working on the fleas anymore (around here)

Something natural that works for me I buy 4oz of clove oil. I put 1oz in a spray bottle and add 8 oz water put it on there body and fleas are dead. Nags and Mosquitos stay away too. Repeat 2 times a week. I even put it on me here in Florida too much Mosquitos. I love the smell too. I discovered this from my breeder as to my princess is allergic to frontline.

I've been using front line since it came out, it's applied between the shoulder blades, part thier hair between the shoulder blades about 1 1/2 inches, squeeze the tube so just a little bit comes out, run the tube slowly down the parted hair, the hair roots will absorb some, you will have left over, just repeat going down the parted hair, I have never had it running off their hair. What ever you use, just follow the directions, apply slowly and repeat if necessary. Good luck with your choices and applications.

I figured I would make a list:

Sentinel only does fleas and worms like heart worm and tape worm, hook worm, round worm

Comfortis for fleas only

Revolution protects against heartworm, fleas, American Dog ticks, ear mites, and Sarcoptic mange mites when used as directed.

K9 Advantix II kills flea and ticks including deer

Advantage is flea and lice

Advantage II for fleas

Capstar for fleas

Frontline Plus flea and ticks including deer ticks

Vectra is fleas only

Vectra D is for fleas and ticks including deer ticks

I hope this helps everyone out

I have friends that use Vectra D. . . .it kills and Repels and kills fleas, ticks including deer ticks, mosquitoes, biting and sand flies, lice and mites (excluding mange mites).

They have used all the rest and will never go back

what about parastar that is what lola used last year and she had no reaction to it, which is always a concern but hardly anyone on YT mentions is, do you think it is any good

the reviews on Vectra D don't seem to good, I also looked up Parastar, they were a little better but still not great, I bet it is the same with many of the other, ugggggh I hate making this decision, I agonize over it every year and I am on the way to the vet, think I will stick with Parastar but it bothers me that no one talks about it. I also give Lola the chewable heart guard which my vet does not seem to want to use anymore, but I don't want to switch since I have had good luck and this way I do heart worm on the first and flea and tick on the 15th
