| New to YorkieTalk. May have posted this twice. My Yorkie mix, Coco, has suddenly started having to go out in the middle of the night - (1:30 am, 4:30 am etc.) This is new behavior and she has never gone in the house since puppyhood. She eats dinner at 4:30 - 5pm and takes a last walk at 7 - 7:30 pm. Any ideas? Should I have place for her to go in the house? I don't like that idea! Please help! |

| Hi, for what it's worth, I don't think it's unusual at all. My Bella always has to go in the middle of the night--it's almost expected, so we plan for it. When she whines in the the night, we take her out of her sleep crate and take her to her potty pad, and she goes. Then she's usually good for the rest of the night. You should either have a place for her to go in the house at night, or take her outside for a walk in the night, whatever you're more comfortable with. You could also try taking her out for a walk just before bedtime to see if that helps. |

| We use potty pads in my house year round so thankfully I don't have to worry about going out in the middle of the night. I would try a potty pad and see if coco will go on that instead if that works better in the middle of the night. Welcome to YT.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Are you saying she suddenly needs to go out TWICE during the night...1:30 and 4:30? If so, then I'd be concerned that she may have a UTI if this is suddenly new for her. Is she going more frequently in the day time as well? I'd take her to the vet for a UTI test. It's not that's it's unusual for a dog to need to go in the middle of the night, but if it's new and different...then I'd worry a bit.

| Thanks for all the help. This is such a comfort to know I am not alone. Since my dogs are getting older, I worry more and more - it's like puppyhood in reverse. I am going to try all your suggestions and luckily it's time for our yearly vet appointment so I have to go anyway and will get some advice there too I'm sure. So glad to be here and will check in regularly. Thanks again. |
