I too, am so sorry for your loss. Something similar happened for me years ago and it had a lasting effect. Please have the necropsy done to try and get answers. That is just terrible.

At least you might know what caused this tragic, sudden death. The only thing that could make this worse is that it was abuse or negligence.

The nose bleed symptoms that Pebbles experienced before she died have me concerned. There are many things that can cause nose bleeds, among them blunt force trauma, and various diseases. Here is an article about nose bleeds in dogs and cats:

What a terrible thing to happen to your little Pebbles, the fact that this happened so suddenly must make it even harder to deal with, I'm so sorry.

I have mixed feelings about having a necropsy done, and faced the same decision six years ago when my Schnauzer girl died unexpectedly at 8.

The price to do a necropsy on a small dog is often $500-$1,000. and does not always reveal the cause of death. In my case, I decided not to, even though I would have liked to have know the actual cause. Bottom line for me was that it wouldn't bring her back, and I needed to move through the grieving and focus on our good memories more than I needed to have answers to things that are out of my control.

It is an individual choice, and where I see value in getting results for breeder information or revealing abuse, or potential hazards, etc, it is also OK to just let our little ones rest in peace and hold on to memories of happier times.

That's kind of how I feel too. Even if the groomer was at fault, in Texas a dog is just a piece of property legally, so suing them and winning would probably just get you the amount of money back that you paid for the necropsy.

I'm so sorry about your baby Pebbles. I wouldn't wish the devastation of losing a beloved pup on my worst enemy. Sometimes it helps to talk here though; I know it did for me when Minnie died.

Just speaking for myself, if it were me, and the necropsy revealed negligence on the part of the groomer, I'd be happy just recouping the cost of the necropsy, because this would put the groomer on notice to take better care of clients. And I would want to know for my own peace of mind how my dog died, even if the groomer wasn't at fault.

Exactly. Severe head injury or lung/chest injury or any number of things can cause it. The story given is more than a little troubling, while it may be just exactly what happened but I would have to know more, if I could.

I hope and pray Eli88 is getting the understanding and support she needs right now from family and friends and feels she can come hear to talk about her grief and loss.
