| ![]() When I lived in the mountains on 20 acres of land, my female chow would chase everything, and I mean everything !!!!!! One day she seen a raccoon at the bottom of our mountain, and started chasing it. It scared the heck out of me because they are soooo mean, so I'm running behind her screaming for her to stop and she's just yelling back at me arrr rarrrr arrr rarrrrr , my interpretation was wow mom a raccoon, I can't believe it's a raccoon in broad daylight, I can't stop now !!!!! Well I ran as fast as I could up this huge steep mountain, and when I got to the top, thankfully the raccoon had made it up a very big tree, I just thanked god that the raccoon ran up that tree instead of taking on daisy :-) that would have been a losing battle for daisy for sure !!!! |

| ![]() Oh, Rhonda, you and those critters that seem to visit your home ever so often! Scary for your babies this time. Thank goodness Rosie didn't catch up to the possum before Mommie got her and good for Mikki just staying put when sister Rosie was making the point to Mr. or Ms. Possum. These little terriers so often take real offense to another "visitor" being in their territory and seem to think it's VERY important that they send a message not to repeat the visit. These little security guards may be pint-sized but they take their job very seriously.

| ![]() My former dog, Sophie, RIP, a silky terrier, 12 pounds, brought in possums through the doggie door -- three times over her 13 years. Well, two were possums and one was some kind of generic brown animal. You think I would learn! She was so proud, running around the living room with it. Fortunately they were small and "played possum" or were actually dead when they were in the house. Pretty gross for sure. I think they all left on their own after DHH took them outside. Sophie got a larger one on the ramp once but it was too big for the opening. I made her come in and closed the door. The possum was gone in the morning. Long story short, the doggie door is now closed well before dark and Yorkies stay in!

| ![]() I live in a wooded area that is also seems to be a drop off spot for people who abandon pets. We have plenty of forest creatures as well. When I used to leave food out for the feral cats or frightened dogs at night we would have opossums, racoons, skunks, foxes, porcupines, etc. on the patio eating up the pet food. Amazingly they all got along just fine and many brought their families with them. Had to stop feeding at night time since attracting small creatures like that also attracts larger predators. It was getting kind of expensive as well. Now the feeding station is farther out in the woods and only stocked during the day. Gracie is never allowed off lead outside. Just too dangerous. |
