We just added 2 yorkies-one male, one female- to our family. They have seriously brought so much joy to our home. We had Sophie here about a week before we brought Tyler home. In the beginning, it was as if they had already known each other as they literally seemed to ignore one another like "no big deal". We kept them in our guest bathroom at bedtime since day 1. Even though we have two kennels, we only leave 1 in there with the door opened so they could get out to get water or use the pee pad as needed. (Tyler was already pad trained.) With the bathroom being tile, the only soft comfy place to sleep would be in the kennel and since day 1 they didn't mind sleeping in it together. They are now good little "friends". They cuddle together for naps on the sofa (so cute) even though they have plenty of soft spots to choose from. Also, I just LOVE watching them play together. They give us lots of daily laughs! I am so glad we decided to add them both to our family!

Also before my husband and I had children, we had had 3 yorkies at one time. I had Gizmo, my male, before we got married. He was loaded with personality and the most playful little guy I had ever known! After we got married, our first home had a large 1.5 acre fenced in yard that we loved taking him out to run and subsequently chase squirrels in. That was his absolute favorite thing to do. He never succeeded in catching one (thankfully!) but he was sure determined! Even though we took him on walks and took him outside in our yard daily, he still was just overly energetic! That was when we decided to add another yorkie. This time a female we named Lexi. She was very playful with Gizmo and finally seemed to fulfill his need for play; in addition, I finally had a cuddlebug in her and him! We loved having her so much that we decided to complete our yorkie family by adding one more female, little Abby. Abby was an extreme lovebug, but even though she ended up the smallest of the 3, she soon ruled the yorkie pack. Most of the time they all got along great, but every now and then the 2 (spayed) females would fight- it never got too serious though. I never saw ANY aggression between the male and either of the females.

From my experience, I have had so much joy by have multiple yorkies. Also in my experience having a female and male seems to go the smoothest...although I have never had more than one male at a time. My 2 females did fight sometimes, so I personally would recommend adding a male (neutered) if you decide to do so.

Good luck!

Just saw a video of a super cute baby fluff chasing a ball. It made me want another especially since I didn't get to experience Kaji growing up. Ah well. Maybe in the future as it just isn't in the stars for us now. We'll continue to enjoy our fosters for now.

My family is boys, boys, boys. I am surrounded. Can't believe I ended up with boy Yorkies.

A lot of people will say the ideal mix for Yorkie pairs is a girl and a boy. Max and Teddy are two equally strong males and they love each other. Lots of examples of multiple girls on YT and Facebook who do very well with each other.

It really comes down to the individual dogs.

How funny! I have 3 (human) girls and no boys! I never knew how much of a lovebug yorkie boys could be though. I have got to videotape him...he is just too precious and cuddly. Sophie has her loving moments only after she has worn herself out playing..lol! Anyhow, you'd think I'd leave my 1 boy alone with the bows and such, but he is just such a beautiful boy and unlike Sophie, he sits still for me to brush and fix his hair. If Sophie wasn't a bow thief, he'd wear them all day and not look messy. When I pull her hair back in a bow, after about an hour, she has worked it loose playing...lol!

Of course, my neighbor told me I am making my only boy girly with his bows. He's just so cute with them though!

I agree with this! It truly does come down to the individuals. Although my 2 females had a few minor fights, it truly was rare. And then a neighbor of mine has 2 male schnauzers, and they get along beautifully!

I've always had at least 2 dogs, at one point we had 4 (3 girls, 1 boy).
I loved having multiples, they had great relationships with each other. Although 2 of the girls used to fight sometimes, it was mostly growling and snarling.

I kinda want another dog, but it's not possible right now. I don't have the energy to groom and chase after 2, it would be harder for me to take Lola with me, and I'm not sure she'd like a sibling.
She likes other dogs, but after a bit she's like *done*.
What I really want is a neighbor or friend with a dog she can play with.

I'm not sure how he'd do with a more permanent friend. Also, family vacations INCLUDE Kaji. No one in my family helps, which is not their responsibility, but one is my traveling limit. There's only one me and that ratio seems fair for plane travel and road trips.
This is kind of me right now. While I think with the right dog, Jackson would really enjoy a playmate, it's also just... really easy with one. But I do a lot of things with him. I think IF I moreso just stayed home, and went for walks, etc, it wouldn't be a problem at all. I think more about traveling (even though we only go on vacations with him 2 or 3 times a year), and going back and forth between houses, and visiting family/friends houses with him, and just in general. My biggest concern is those moments, even though honestly if I really think about it, 85% of the time would be not much extra work with two, but it's that 15% of time that would be added stress to my life.

I don't know it's one of those things where on one hand I'm super content with one, but I also have a burning desire to add another lol. I guess it's just going to end up being logistics, right timing or right puppy.

My older dog was never pee pad trained. My younger one was pee pad trained and when winter hit, he was just too cold going outside and was having accidents indoors....so I bought him pee pads.

Once Ricky started using the pee pads, Prince started lifting his leg all over the house again(he was also bad with potty training when I first got him but had gotten much better). I think he smells Ricky's pee in the house and he wants to mark his territory all over the house. I think he's also confused because it's ok for Ricky to pee in the house, so it must be ok for him to pee everywhere.

I added a male when my Bella was 1 1/2 yrs. They were the same age. I do have jealous problems over me and toys. They each have their own personality and my female has her days she wants to prove she is the boss. You may or may not have problems but I think if I took them away from each other they would really miss each other. We just have to correct them when it happens.

I previously had a female and a male yorkie and they were the best of buddies (and were about a 12-18 months apart I think.....its been a long time so I forget exactly lol)

I now have an almost 6 month old female yorkie and an almost 9 month old female papillon....the papillon just came home to us so the puppies are doing a little bit of adjusting but get along really well most of the time. I do have to step in and break up some arguments over toys as well as separating them when Lilah is in one of her non-stop pestering moods haha. Overall I think they make a good pair and look forward to adding a male at some point (all spayed/neutered)

I love reading this post! I too want another puppy to keep Gunner company. My ole poodle was content with just me, she didn't need much playing. I didn't realize yorkies had so much energy! I don't mind playing with him, but it would be nice for him to have a friend to zoom around with. Had the grandpup over and he wanted to play so bad. She finally played with him for a few minutes and it made him so happy. Now I just have to convince DH and find a younger rescue that he approves of.

I'm the youngest of 7 girls. So girls, girls, girls. But, I'm a major tomboy so I can sort of be counted as a boy. LOL

We added Zoey to our family little bit after 1 year old. My biggest fear was the two fighting and having to re-home one. Luckily, that didn't become an issue. They're not the best of friends but they have each others backs if needed.

I can't tell if Magnus puts up with Zoey's abuse b/c she's female or b/c she's family. But I've seen other younger dogs try the same thing and he will not have any of it.

IMH, if you have the time, energy, and the funds for another, GO FOR IT!!!!! One of the things I did was take Magnus to go see Zoey with us when we went to pick her up. Let him sniff her and what not. He seemed indifferent so that was the green light for me. Once we brought her home, he was grooming her so much that she was soaked from head to tail. LOL Still, I did keep an eye on them for 2 weeks just in case.
