Add another one or not Thinking about getting Zoey a sister but am afraid . Read about yorkies fighting then the thread of "my 2 babies" I don't want to " take away" the pleasures of being an only child but realize giving her a hairy sibling might enrich her life , unless she ends up being a little you know what...Zoey is such a good sweet gentle loving little thing and only being 3. 1/2 lbs too ... I just don't know what to do. She is 10 months.....how can I decide? |
We made the decision to add another on when our Sammy was a year and a half... He loved having a playmate... now we have four yorkies and they all get along wonderfully... not problems fighting. |
4 is amazing how do you ever get anything else done?! Lol |
Well usually if the females are spayed you wount have the fighting issue. Another thing you can try would be fostering a dog to see how the trial goes. Last option you can get a male and females get along great with males. You can neuter him young and avoid marking issues. All dogs are different some can get really moody around heat cycles and take it out on there furry friends. Others never go thru that stage. My aunt had a aggressive female that would attack her furry sister. But never attacked the males. Good luck with your search for your new fur baby. |
If you think you can handle 2, and/or Zoey is left alone for the day, while you're at work then go for it. I couldn't handle more than 1 myself, but more power to you, and I wish you the best of luck in your decision. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
When we spoke, I didn't tell you that Max, my first Yorkie, has an "only child" personality. However, we ran into a couple of loose Yorkies on our walk one day. Seeing Max interact with them convinced me he would enjoy a friend (we returned the loose Yorkies safely to their home). I think that is a big consideration -- does Zoey enjoy being around other dogs? It is a little daunting thinking about whether or not the two will get along. My boys liked each other instantly, but Max was bossy and we had jealousy issues. Everything had to be on Max's terms. It is best to stand back and let the dogs work it out, unless one of them is doing something dangerous. Other considerations: If you like to take Zoey with you to a lot of places, having 2 is a little more work. Grooming 2 is more work. Everything is doubled -- including the love and pleasure. For all of the examples of 2 fighting, there are many more examples of multiples who love snuggling with each other and playing together. Best wishes in making your decision. |
I love having multiples, at least 2 to keep each other company when home alone. Of course I took that to a new level and got 2 sisters, so now have 4. Yes, there are practical things to consider, but it sure if fun if you can handle it. |
I'd wait till she was about 2yo, then, get a Male Yorkie Puppy that she can raise as her own. |
Barney was miserable before we go Anna. The boy just loves to play and our other dog is 15. He wanted nothing to do with rambunctious Barney. We adopted 6 year old Anna. She is much calmer, but still gets the zoomies and chases Barney through the house. I love it. |
I've longed for a second Yorkie for a very long time. Now, I don't really want a second. Life seems to always get in the way, and I can barely afford 1 as it is. He loves other dogs that we meet on walks and the dog park. On the flip side he has also HATED one or two of our temporary fosters. He's played with some, and snapped at the others. I'm not sure how he'd do with a more permanent friend. Also, family vacations INCLUDE Kaji. No one in my family helps, which is not their responsibility, but one is my traveling limit. There's only one me and that ratio seems fair for plane travel and road trips. |
We got our female puppy the week our male turned one year old. They are a perfect little complementary pair and lurrrve each other. (The mutual little kisses they go give each other every so often just kill me.) I'm really glad we opted for a companion for him. My mom has Keegan's female littermate and a slightly younger female shorkie. Not sure if it's that they are both females or the differences in temperament, but they occasionally have disagreements (over toys, usually). Nevertheless, the shorkie meticulously grooms the yorkie's face each night (to entertaining results), so they do enjoy each other. When the four are all together: adorable chaos. |
I have only one now, but I had three spayed females who were within a year of each other who are at the Rainbow Bridge. It was a little more difficult when our littlest one joined our family because she was a terror but the biggest lovebug. They almost in ever fought, and it was so nice that they had each other. I loved it also. |
When I got Prince, it was because his owner thought he'd rather be an only child, but every time I'd take him home around my moms yorkies, he'd get so excited....and whenever he was left home alone, he got bad separation anxiety, so I decided to get him a little girl as a friend. Long story short, I adopted another boy because he fit so perfectly with my male and they are now best friends. It is much harder to travel, vet bills have been more expensive and probably the biggest issue has been the pee. My little guy uses a pee pad and it's basically given my older dog a licence to pee all over my house....but I don't regret getting my little guy at all!! |
