| laser surgery for spaying? Has anyone on here had there lil one spayed using laser? I talked to the vet the other day and he explained how much better laser was. He also he recommends using the gas Isoflurane instead of anesthesia, said it was much safer esp for yorkies. Hayley will will 5 months old on the 14 of jan and he said I should sdpay he before her first heat. He said they would alos do a series of blood work up prior to surgery to make sure everything is ok, I am so nervous about doing this, esp when I need to in the next couple months. Hayley is good weight though about 51/2 -6 lbs. If anyone has any info I greatly appreciate it

| I used the laser for Neutering Bailey, it cost a little more, but after I heard all the pros I went with it,,thought it was alot easier and less invasive for him. He had great results, and was fine the same night..as if nothing happened.

| I can help you here because Lady was spayed using micro surgery (laser). The reason was her size, she was old enough to be spayed but still very tiny,so laser was the best option (she is 2lbs at 2 years old and was spayed last year). There is no scaring and no stitches (the tiny hole is glued shut) with this surgery because everything is done through two very little holes on each side of the abdomen. They insert a metal tube in each hole, one is a light and through the other they do surgery. Its very quick, infact Lady was under for a total of about 30minutes and afterwards there was no way of telling that she had been spayed because they didnt even have to cut her hair. Also, she was eating an hour later and jumping around that night, the recovery was practically imediate. Its the best method in my opinion although they dont use it on all dogs here, its reserved for the smaller ones and puppies.I asked about having Jess spayed with micro surgery but she would having normal surgery unless I go outside my pet insurance and pay for her to have micro surgery. I hope Iv helped |

| My Vet only does laser spaying & neutering. All 3 of mine were done by laser, plus it is mandatory to run the blood work tests before he proceeds with the laser surgery. He wants to make sure before they go into surgery. It is slightly costly but well worth it. Just knowing it is less painful for the babies is a big relief.

| I just pulled Isabella's receipt & it was $221.50 . I can break it down for you if you like. Of course each Vet charges different prices. That is how much it cost me in my area. Bounce's surgery was $154.50 with none of the tests. Romeo's was $191.50 with the tests before surgery.

| Ruby was spaied by Lazer surgery a few months ago. It was amazing and just a few months after theres no scar and it doesn't even look like she was spaied. They put 4 stitches outside the insision and some glue just to make sure nothing opens up. The stitches were taken out a week later. It was a fast recovery and she got to come home the same day.

| The cost of Ruby's lazer surgery was $583 but that was also because she got her 4 canine baby teeth removed and she had gone through a heat cycle.

| We had the laser used for both Sammie and Gracie and would do it again if I ever have another dog. There were no stitches to deal with and their recovery was quick - in fact, we could not keep either one of them still after we picked them up from their surgery. The laser added $100 to the total cost of the procedure - it is so worth it!

| Tiger just had the laser surgery done last Friday (Dec. 30th). He did great! There were NO problems with it at all. He also had a couple of baby teeth pulled and his front dew claws removed. His bill was only $168 so I feel blessed after looking at some of the other quoted prices!

Have you considered vasectomy and tubal ligation options for these little ones? Sherry Dee~ Have you discussed other less invasive procedures than a full spay with your vet? There is tubal ligation and also a procedure where just the uterus is removed but the ovaries are left intact so the girl still has the hormones she needs and there is no sudden menopause. If you are looking for a vet to do the laser which I would recommend I would ask about these other options. Good luck. | |

| I agree with SoCalyorkiLvr,Lady (as I said in my post somewhere up there lol) had micro surgery but her ovaries are intact, only her womb was removed.Acording to my vet, taking a females ovaries away affects her entire personality and her body.He thinks that females who have no female hormones due to complete spaying, end up looking fat and old way before their time and for the past few years he refuses to do any complete spaying (only to females). He says that female dogs dont go through menopause so the removal of the ovaries is a big shock to their sytem as they would never experience this drastic hormonal unbalance naturally like human women do.It can cause hair loss, dry skin, depresion, lack of apetite, sudden weight loss or gain etc..the list was quite long as I remember. Its just like a very un-natural,drastic menopause which their bodies arent prepared for. This is what I was told and after reading the leaflet my vet gave me when Lady was spayed,I think its true.Bitches dont go through menopause, there for their bodies arent prepared for it,its common sense really. The lack of ovaries is the lack of hormones and the lack of hormones means menopause. |

| doing it Saturday! Capi is getting spayed tomorrow by a laser. It is the only way my vet does it anymore and he speaks very highly of it! I am so nervous though! Anytime a baby has surgery is scary...and I have to work, on Saturday for an all day training so I won't even get to be with her, my husband will have to take care of her! Anyway, I'll let you know my experience after Saturday! |
