| How often do you get your yorkie groomed ? So after participating in several grooming threads, it made me start to wonder if I'm getting Gizmo groomed and cut to often. I have the mobile groomer come every 2 weeks and he does everything, trimming, wash and dry, anal glands, , , , removing hair from inside ears, trimming nail and accessories. It ends up costing with the tip $80. I can wash and dry him, and can probably trin him as I'm a hair stylist so it shouldn't be to much of a difference. The only thing I'm iffy on is the nails as I can't see the quik de to his nails being black and definitely do not know how to express the anal glands as well as don't want to pull the inside ear hair. So my question is, how often do you use a groomer, and what is your cost, if you don't mind me asking :-) Thanks in advance for any info :-) Ps. Also he is a cotton coat, I think but am not sure as he's only 8 months old, his fur was in really bad shape when I rescued him because he was so malnourished, and I know their coats keep changing. His color is also changing a lot right now, His face is real silky, he has a long silky tail, and seems silky on his back between the shoulder blades. He does seem to get more silky as time goes on, as when I rescued him he was all cotton, but is now like half and half :-) also a few weeks back he lost a lot of the cordon hair so I am wondering if his coat is changing to silky, any ideas? I have a ton of really great shampoos, conditioners and spray detangler for him I have stocked up as well. It would be awesome to find out what the normal routine most use is :-) thanks again so much. Gizmo is my first yorkie, as I've always had larger dogs so I'm winging it as I go, and trying to learn as much as a can about the normal routine others use :-) |

| I used to have them groomed about once every 4-6 weeks. But I've been frustrated because the last two times they went to the groomer she did not follow my instructions. The last time was about a week before Christmas and I actually cried when I saw them. I specifically asked her to leave their faces alone and she shaved both of their noses. I have been doing a lot of the grooming at home. But I'm a big chicken when it comes to their nails. I will probably take them to all pet---30 miles away to have their nails done only. My understanding is to only do glands when you notice they need it (scooting and an odor). Fortunately, I've not noticed this with Barney and Anna. If I do, I will take them to the vet.

| That is what has me thinking of trying to do most of it myself :-) I keep telling him I'm trying to let Gizmos hair grow out so he will have a nice top knot, and this last time he cut the hair on top of his head so short, the top knot fell out within a couple hours, where normally it would stay close to a week. It's like continuously starting over with growing his hair, or even knowing if I can because he keeps cutting the shorter puppy cut every time ugh...... |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog It has been a little chilly here in sunny California so I have not washed my Yorkies for the last 4 weeks. They are inside dogs. I usually have a groomer come to my home. I pay her $50 a dog so she gets $100. She raises her grandkids so I try to pay her well. I can wash and groom them using a clipper and not taking too much fur off. She will trim them down and give them the cutesy face. I would not wash Yorkies too much. You will wash the oils out of their coat and cause dryness. Brush the coat every day and also the teeth. |

| I was a bad yorkie mom who only had her first baby groomed every two months-it was a standing appointment. I would bathe her about once or twice in between. Nails were never a problem. Thanks to YT and Youtube, I am trimming and bathing Gracie myself. The baths are weekly, and since I am not remotely good at the trimming, that takes place as needed. I never take off much at a time. I trim nails, but for stinky stuff we will see the vet. It is not so much the cost as that I am less willing to leave our Gracie alone at a groomer's all day. So, to your question, I would buy a grooming stand ( you likely have EVERYTHING else you need!) and cut the grooming visits to less often. But then, I have a second daughter getting married less than 13 months after her sister- my money is spoken for! |

| My Coco is cotton coated also. I shave her body myself (7 FC blade) before every bath (2-3 weeks in winter, 1-2 weeks in summer) and leave face and legs longer. She gets professionally groomed 3-4 times a year when her leg hairs get too long. A fresh cut also gives me a guide when I do home groom . I pay $65 at Petsmart and she gets the works. I don't do nails either, so they do go in for nail grinding every 4-6 weeks or so.

| I do most of her grooming myself. The groomer shaved her nose, and feet and kept trimming the hair right above her eyes. We're looking for a house in another town I might try a couple groomers there when we move. If they listen better I might do that since I'm not actually that good at it myself and nails and ears scare me. full grooms at the old one cost around 50 bucks and included everything even teeth, she just never turned out like she was supposed to lol. If you think you can do the rest my vet only charges 8 bucks to trim their nails for you. I haven't checked to see what a groomer charges for just a nail trim but I bet its pretty cheap. |

| We bathe Bella weekly whether she needs it or not and have her groomed every two months. She has a silky coat and we do a modified puppy cut. The grooming costs $60. With a $10 tip, that comes to $70. |

| Every 4-5 weeks. Getting anal glands expressed at our vet is expensive (imo) - $16 if done at a vet appt for something else, or $24 if just a vet tech appt for the glands. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I groom mine about every 2 weeks. I groom them myself. I trim their nails every 3 weeks. Pixie just lays on her back and lets me cut her nails, Roxie sits pretty good for her trim but Cali fights me.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I groom all my pups myself, always have. It was definitely a learning process at first and I've come a long way. I've tried different look and found what works for us and with four pups at the time and now three I would have gone broke. I groom mine once a month I do a (full bath, nails, grooming and cut when needed) in the warmer months and every other month on cold weather sets in. With some light grooming in between and always keeping their top knots combed and up. I learned that the longer you leave those in the harder it is to comb them. So we do them once a week or when ever they take them out.

| I bathe my two every week and let their hair grow out in the winter. I give them sanitary trims, but otherwise only shave them when the weather is warmer. I love both the short and long look, so this gives me a chance to have them in both. I groom them myself... it really isn't that hard.

| I bathe the boys once a week and they go to the groomer every 5 weeks or so ($65 each plus tip). I do "face, feet and fanny" trims in between grooms. |

| I guess I'm the only one that doesn't bathe them often. They get a bath once every 2-3 months. But they do get wiped down/brushed twice a day or from after any outing. Haircuts, I mostly do at home whenever they get a bath. The only thing I didn't do were the nails but I've recently purchased a dremel and in the process of doing that myself as well now. Anal glands, I watched youtube and it's really not that hard unless you have small but to work with like my Zoey (5.5 lbs). I take them to the groomers once a year and the cost is about $70 or so... I'm letting their hair grow out a bit since it's so cold but once it gets warm, they'll be getting a summer cut! |

YT 1000 Club Member | I usually take all my guys in 3 times a year, but, this unusually cold weather (for this area) is messing with my schedule. I bathe by scent, if they're stinky they get it !
