Want to try NuJoint supplement for luxating patella So about 2 months ago I noticed at times Gizmo would cry and hold up his back right leg, so I took him to the vet and it was confirmed that from being starved by the idiot I rescued him from, it's one of the health problems that was created, as all his blood sugar was going to vital organs to survive, and unfortunately his cartlidge suffered damage. Well in the last couple days he's not been feeling well, and I figured out it was his LP, as when I would even go near that leg he would get quite nippy at me, plus he's been limping today. So I was looking up supplements that had good reviews and came across the NuJoint wafers. I don't want to put him through surgery because he is so young at 8 months and is not completely done growing, which the vet also said he could grow out of it. So I was looking for a good joint supplement that might work and this one had very good reviews. I already ordered a couple packages, but was wondering if anyone here has tried it, and if so how did it work? Did you notice an improvement in the leg once they took it? Thank you so much in advance for any and all input, as I just know he is hurting and it breaks my heart after all he's already been through. To me it seems to be progressing quite quickly :-( I just want him to be pain free. I did massage both his back legs and it seemed to help for an bout or so, but then he started limping again. I couldn't keep him from running and jumping so I put him to bed early tonight, poor little guy xoxo

Oh and when he was diagnosed a couple months ago, it was only stage one, and his knee cap would pop right back in within seconds.

I have never dealt with LP, thankfully, but I did once have a dog with hip dysplasia. It is imperative that the connective tissues be preserved as long as possible. The body depends on those tissues to support where the joint is deficient. I have never used the product you mention. I always look for products that used real food sources for their supplements. The first dose of joint supplement I ever gave my dog almost killed him. It had been supplied to me by a vet and I gave the appropriate dose but he apparently was allergic to one of the ingredients. Always be cautious when giving any supplement for the first few doses. There are so many companies jumping on the bandwagon claiming that their products are "natural" that it is now necessary to really get a good look at where their product originates and how it is processed. Have you read up on this company and compared it with others? Omega 3's have also been found to be very helpful for supporting joint health. Good luck with your little guy.

| I've never heard of NuJoint, but Cosequin was recommended here. It's been studied & researched on effectiveness & safety. Dasuquin are the same makers as Cosequin. Cosequin DS More information When Momo was a pup, he had grade 1 in one knee. I gave them all (since it's a supplement) cosequin sprinkled on top of their food for about a year. It comes in powder form in capsules & is liver flavored, so they liked it. Last vet check, vet couldn't pop Momo's knee out. He's 6 years old now.

I've never had to deal with LP, thankfully, but I did have a dog with hip Dysplasia. I'd make sure that the supplement is taken from good quality food sources and that it is not over processed like many American supplements are. My dog's first dose of glucosomine and chondroitin, given to me by a vet, almost killed him. Apparently he had a bad reaction to the chondroitin. Just always be careful whenever you first give a new type of supplement. Omega 3's have also been shown to help sustain joint tissue health and is something you might consider giving in addition to your other supplement. The Omega 3's are also wonderful for the skin and coat. Once that tissue starts to break down the pet has more bone on bone pain and less ability to have free movement so you need to keep him on a good healthy diet supplemented with the best stuff you can get. Read as much as you can because marketing strategies for any pet product these days can be very deceptive. Labeling is not regulated or managed in any way so we pet owners are on our own when it comes to selecting what is best for our babies.

I agree, omega 3 is so wonderful. You can go to trader joe's, they have unsalted sardines in spring water, they LOVE it! It stinks so I hold my breath or breathe thru my mouth when I give it to them. I really don't know if the cosequin made Momo's knee stronger or what but he never limped or lifted up that leg...the vet did say that it's common in puppies & as they grow older, their knees get stronger. Hope that's the case for Gizmo!

Thanks so much everybody xoxo, I've ordered several different supplements, and am going to compare the labels well before giving. I'm also going to check out the recommendations on here as well. I just don't want my little guy hurting. I'm also going to take him to the vet and get new X-rays or MRI, whichever they think will show it better. It's so hard to watch him limp :-( he seems to be doing a bit better as he's not limping since yesterday, and has been playing a bit of fetch and enjoying short walks. Thanks again everybody so much !!!!!
