| New here and have a few questions! I have a five month old yorkie and need advice on a few things 1. My puppy looks stringy a day after her bath. I think it's from all the petting, but what can be done about that?!?! Was wondering if there is a dry shampoo out there that works on this? Or some other product? 2. Is there anything that can be done to prevent tearing? I don't want to use anything that has an antibiotic, but was wondering if changing food would help or giving distilled water?? 3. My puppy has been diagnosed with luxating patella in her back right leg, and the knee goes outward instead of the more common inward luxation. She has no pain, and runs, plays, etc, although has a slight sideways slant to her run. I have an appt with an orthopedic surgeon soon, but was just wondering if anyone here has experienced this? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome! I'm not sure why she is looking stringy but she could have a silkier coat which tends to look stringy quicker than the cottony coats. As for her eyes, sometimes at that age the hair starts to grow into the eyes. You can try wetting it down until it's long enough to lay down on it's own. I have heard distilled water helps but not sure if it does. What are you feeding her now? I know when I switched to a grain free food the tearing was less. On the LP I have one that has grade 4 in both and so far at the age of 8 1/2 it hasn't bothered her. Then I have another who at age 4 had to have surgery on her grade 3. I would try and limit her jumping as much as possible. The surgeon should be able to advise you as to whether surgery is needed or if you can hold off and see how she does. Good luck

| Uni has a thin, silky and yes stringy coat. There is no product in the world that will make it look like a show dogs coat. It is in her genes, as I suspect the same as your pups. It's ok, Uni's hair has made me come to realize and accept her and my hair as well. It's just the way it grows out and no topical product will change the genetic makeup. Tearing can also be a genetic thing. But in puppies can be as simple as the hair growing out and poking them in the eye. Just have to wait it out. If it still tears after that, then again you know it's genetics. Lots of yorkies have problems with their tear ducts. LP issue: Uni is the same. Her feet turn outwards not in. She also runs crooked. She is almost 7 now and hasn't had an issue, but every dog is different. Keep her weight on the lower side of healthy, limit her jumping, and many give supplements such as glucosamine. Talk to your vet and do not jump into surgery right away. Unless the dog goes lame or is in pain, I don't see why one would go thru the surgery. It's costly, and recovery is about 8 weeks, and they usually do one knee at a time.
