Thank goodness we haven't lost power or our gas heat, and our temp is now a balmy 14ºF, compared to this morning's 4ºF low. I have decided, though, that I am going to have to invest in new windows. I have known for a long time that these 16 year old, aluminum frame, contractor grade windows are crap, but when I got home this morning and found ice coating the inside of every window in the house, I decided that it is really time to do something about it. Yes, really, all these photos are inside the house, and the heat was on 67.

Wow, that is scary and you are in GA our windows are a great source of heat loss as well. We live on a lake with a north facing and the back of our house is mostly windows and they are big ones some are all most ceiling to floor. You can almost feel a breeze when you walk by them. Lots of people think I should put heavy window coverings on them for the winter, but I don't want holes in the pretty woodwork that surrounds the windows. Plus it would sort of defeat the purpose of having the windows to enjoy the view, so I just grin and bear it knowing that for three months our heating bill will be quite high

I grew up in michigan so I do remember. My 80 yearold mother still there so I do worry. Daily checks on her but very happy to be in so cal, although the weather report said it should only reach 74 today. Sorry folks. I had been looking at some retirement property in ky but may have to rethink. My poor babies freeze in april when we visit , don't think they'd survive in this type of weather. Keep warm.

HOLY GUACIMOLY !! Don't let the dogs lick it or you may end up with a scene from "A Christmas Story" . . LOL

That is just crazy . . we have some old windows too, original to the house build in 63 but ours are nothing like that. I would be freakin out if that was our house. You might want to turn up that heat thermometer. In order to heat our home up and down we have to keep ours set to 76. Its still a little chilly!

Our current temp is 19* wind chill 7* and on the plus + side

I'm surprised that Ohio has a gas shortage. I'm in NYS and we have had a surplus for several years.

It is scary to think of what could happen to people in the northern states if we lost our power supplies during the winter. There are millions of people that do not have an alternate heating source.

They apparently did not use double panes Windows when they built that house! You probably don't get a lot of really cold weather there.

When I lived in Jacksonville, Fla we got a little chilly weather in the winter but nothing that required the kind of preparation needed up north.

I am so tired of these freezing cold days and night here in Ohio.....

Ohio: Last night DD's car was stuck in her driveway at her house. DH took her to work and I picked her up. Lets hope her bf can get her unstuck today. Plus DH's truck wouldn't start this morning... Ugh !! I went out and started it about an hour ago and let it warm up to charge the battery. It's This FUN ???

Oh an my niece and her husband are freaking out about 2" of snow in SC Really !!

So, how is everyone else doing dealing with Mother Nature's scene of humor, lol ?

SO, here in Panama City Beach, Florida, we started at 45 this morning....we have dropped to about 32 degrees now. It's expected to be in the teens tonight. Check this out my office and Bay County Schools are closed tomorrow for a SNOW DAY!!!! We will probably only have freezing rain but a snow day none the less.

Oh, my Yorkies pee on the patio and then right back into the house and under the covers in cold weather. LOL

Tell me about it, its been horrid here in Ohio, they are amputating fingers, toes, ears and noses with frost bite, it's bad.

I woke up to a minus 11 but that is without wind chill factored in to it but tomorrow it it supposed to warm up some. It would have to, I would think

No, using the dishwasher / nice No, doing laundry / even better No, hot showers / Yikes...

Than today I get woke up at 6:30 this morning to my hubby shinning a flashlight in my eyes because we lost power. Well that will sure put a damper in our gas usage, no electric means no HEAT. So anyways I jumped out of bed and checked on the pups. I was so scared that our heat would be out for days so I sent my hubs to go get some kerosene while I got the kerosene heater ready to go just in case. Which by the way he was asked to do and should have been done last night but someone decided to sit on their butt and play Splay Station. I don't know what we would do if we don't have a back up plan.

Thank goodness our power came back on in just over an hour but at least now we are prepared !!

Hoping that everyone effected by this same weather is staying warm, stay Safe !!
OMGOSH - PRAYERS TO ALL the people losing power ! It just snowed for the first time in many many years where I am but I'm just horrified at how bad so many states are being affected - What is WRONG with Mother Nature???

Amputating ??? OMG! I hope you never lose your power and to all of you - stay safe and don't go outside !

I've never heard of people having to have anything amputated like you just said - how horrible this is!!!!

Oh my that doesn't sound pleasing at all . . I hope that everyone is bundling up before going out !!

Vinette: were have been doing well with the freezing temps, this post was weeks ago but again with the temps reaching record lows we are once again asked to reserve our usage. And luckily we have not lost power since.

I hope your right about that warm up. I'm in Southeastern Ohio and it was -5 this morning. I woke up to ice on the INSIDE of my windows this morning....crazy. Not to mention the around 10" of snow we got over the weekend. I don't normally mind Winter but this weather is just nuts! I feel guilty even sending the dogs out to pee.

I noticed that too . . though I left a window cracked but nope... it was on all four of them.
