| Two Female Yorkies in a House? Acorn's puppy parents bred and gave birth to 1 boy and 4 girls! They will be ready on December 18th. We're planning on going to look at them this weekend, so excited! Our breeder told us that if Acorn is going to be jealous, gender won't matter. She suggested letting the puppy pick us instead. I always hear that it's a bad idea to get two terriers of the same gender, for dominance reasons. Anyone out there that does have only two female yorkies? I'm wondering if it is actually a serious issue. Gender doesn't matter to us, but I just don't want to fall in love with a little girl and make the wrong choice! Thanks for any help. I tried searching for a similar thread but had no luck- so I made my own!

| I have 4 females, and there is occasional a little jealousy, but it certainly is not a problem. I believe they will adapt regardless of whether you get a female or male. Good luck, and have fun. Sounds exciting!

| Thank you for your reply- good news for us! A little sister would be awesome :-) but of course, we wouldn't mind a brother either. Just hopefully a docile, laid back one because that's what acorn is!

| I had three spayed females who were within a year of each other I have only one little girl now, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Unswayed females can be a problem together from what I've heard, but it wouldn't worry about ones that are spayed.

| I've never owned a female yorkie(even though I really want one)..but what I do own is 2 males. I rescued an older male who is VERY dominant, especially when it comes to mommy, and I had also heard that you always place a dog with the opposite sex, so when it came to looking for a new playmate, I was just looking for females. i ended up coming across a little male. He's very calm and submissive. Plus, he was SOOO adorable. I couldn't resist!! He fit's perfectly into my pack and him and my older male are best friends. Even though I am missing dressing up a little girl, I don't regret for a second, getting my little guy. While sex may be a factor in placing 2 dogs together, it's definitely not the only factor. I think personality matters MUCH MORE than gender!! If you 2 dogs with dominant personalities, regardless of their sex, they may not get along. |

| Two females I had Piper two years before Jilly. Piper was jealous for a while. But she got over it. If they fight, it's usually over a bone. They eat at the same time and check out each other's dishes for left overs with no fighting. Piper is the dominant one. She is bigger and older. It took some time but I think they are now friends. Good luck . |

| Thanks, everyone! We are going to go look at the litter this Friday. I feel a lot more confident picking a female now :-) We will see who loves us the most! And more importantly, who Acorn loves :-)

| I currently have 2 females, Molly who is 1 and my first baby and I got Maggie in August and she is 5-1/2 months. Molly is trying to be the Alpha of them so there is constant biting and carrying on. It gets on my nerves and I have to separate them quite frequently. I was hoping by now they would get along better but not so much. They have their moments where they both lay on my lap and go to sleep but those are few and far between. Maggie is very layed back but very needy (as soon as she sees me she starts to whine for me to pay attention to her. I've tried the get Molly out first and let her know you still lover her et6c. but it really hasn't changed much from day 1. I love both my girls and hope it changes over time. Molly is spayed and Maggie will be once she's a bit older. Don't get me wrong Maggie will bite back after she's had enough of Molly being mean to her but the constant carrying on gets old after a while. I hope your pups do better. Good luck!

YT 2000 Club Member | We have 2 females and a male and they have never had a fight or ever jealous of the others. I think it is how they are raised and their temperament. My 3 are pretty laid back and do play together but they are people dogs! They prefer to sit on our laps or follow us around. I don't really see a whole lot of difference in male vs female behavior towards each other. Mine are all spayed or neutered or soon to be!

| Hmmm things to consider! Thanks again for your input. I guess I know acorn best. Something that worries me is that she and her other sister picked on the runt of their liter, so I don't know if that means she's naturally aggressive or it's just an animal instinct! She is so spoiled with love, and that won't change! I just hope she doesn't feel threatened.

| Actually I think it is a great idea to get two girls from the same litter. I did and they are a great comfort to each other when we are out or busy in the house. I couldn't have made a better decision and I think they are happier being two. |
