| 5 pound 8 week old puppy? So I just bought a puppy from the breeder. I don't know whether to call him a morkie or a Yorkie because his mother is 1/4 maltese and his father is a pure breed yorkie. This is my first time owning a dog so I'm pretty clueless. Is it because of the little Maltese he has in him, that makes him a little big? I know that buying a puupy at 8 weeks is to young, but unfortunately I didn't find though out till after. Also, the breeder informed me that he had a mild overbite. Is that anything to worry about? Sorry if this is all over the place! - I also attached a picture of his brother to compare (Milo is the black and tan one) |

YT 1000 Club Member | Welcome to YT!!!!' Milo is CUUUUTE!!! I would have thought he was all yorkie looking at his pics if you hadn't said anything lol. I think maltese are usually around the same weight as yorkies , but of course some are "out of standard" weight wise and there are bigger maltese like there are bigger yorkies. I have no info regarding the overbite but this should bump you in the threads. I'm sure someone will come along who has answers . |

| Cute!!! I've seen Morkie from 5lb to 10lb, they are all very cute! He might get some white in his hair. The 5lb Morkie I know has 1/8 blood of Maltese, has not white hair at all and the bigger ones I saw at the dog park are half blood of Maltese I think, they have more whites. You Milo probably won't stop at 5lb, but he's sure gonna be a cuttie! I'm not sure if the overbite will be corrected on its own through the teeth changing... For my pup, we play lots of tug to loose his baby teeth, and the other day, I found his new front teeth look like overbite... I'm wondering if the tug games caused the overbite...

| The overbite is not a trait of maltese or yorkie so either it is a flaw or mom could be more than just maltese. His size could be from either side since maltese should 6-8 lb and yorke under 7 lb. both breeds due have pups that are not standard size. My boys are 3/4 yorkie and 1/4 maltese and my other boy is 1/2 and 1/2. If he has any maltese he is a morkie. Sometime the bigger dogs are easier since you don't have too worry about fragility as much. Both my boys are 4lbs and I am afraid they will be stopped on |

| Have you been to a vet yet? Maybe he is more than 8 weeks or maybe he isn't really 5 pounds. I didn't notice if you said where you got his weight from. I doubt he is all yorkie because that sounds really big. He is cute though. If you were hoping for a tiny dog then you better think hard, because he probably won't be tiny! |

| well he's adorable! and he looks predominantly yorkie. from the size however if he's 8 weeks, (he looks older) he's definitely going to be outside of the standard range - but many are so I wouldn't worry. One comment though just because you've brought it up. If he's related to the black dog - that's not a maltese mix. That is a mix of something else. Maybe miniature schnauzer or poodle? Not sure, but maltese are white... so something's not adding up there. Anyhoo, your baby is adorable and certainly has the yorkie look!

| He is so cute!!! But honestly from the pictures he does not look like 5 lbs (and I am no expert at guessing weight I should add). Did you weight him? He might just be a bigger small dog, which is awesome also.

| Welcome to YT. Congratulations! Your boy is very adorable! As I have no experience with weights or overbites, I will leave that to the experts here. |
