| Feel sick at the thought of leaving Fidget all day Hi, I have a 5 month old Yorkie poo called Fidget. I have for the last 3 years been working a dog walker which is my own business but haven't been getting much work recently so me and my hubby are struggling with money. He works full time, I'm thinking that I will have to go back to being a full time receptionist. I have had a few interviews so may get offered a job soon. But I'm feeling desperately upset at the thought of leaving Fidget every day as my hours would be 9-5pm Mon- Fri. He has access to the kitchen and garden as he goes in and out of the cat flap so toilet wouldn't be an issue I just will miss him terribly and am worried he will be really lonely without me home. I don't know what to do half of me knows that I should get a job to get more money and the other part of me doesn't want to leave my baby Fidget. What should I do? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I wonder if at your new job you'd be able to run home at lunch? That might help you ease into the thought of leaving him, if you know you can check up on him 1/2 way thru the day. I hope you'll be able to find more dog walking work so you can stay home with your little fella !

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That's a hard decision. Is part time work an option? I have to go back to work too but only part time and my girls are older and have each other. I think he will adjust but it will probably be harder on you.

| It is indeed a hard decision....bad times, aren't they? If you're unable to pop home lunchtimes, I'm wondering - as you'll be earning full-time money - whether you could afford to have someone come in for an hour or 2? Not for wee-wees etc., but for company for little Fidget? I wish I lived closer and I might be able to help out....is it worth posting your dilemma on the Europe part of the forum? There might be someone out there who could help! Good luck! Sally + Harry x |

| Friend I have two yorkies. It makes it a little easier. They do get into a routine and life becomes normal to them. I think we miss them more than they miss us. Hahaha |

| I like the ideas that others had about maybe going part-time to start or popping home at lunch to check in on him. Another idea is that if you or your hubby are tech savvy you could set up a web cam pointed at the inside area that he has access too and then you could check on him while you are at work and make sure that he is fine and get your own little fix until you can go home. That way you can work and know your baby is doing just fine. |

| I had to face the same issue last month...my boys were never home alone and now I have to leave them by themselves when I go to work. Fortunately, most of my days are only short periods at a time...2-4 hours and I can come home and check on them...but it still kills me to leave them. It's taken mine a bit to adjust. Thank goodness I adopted my 2nd yorkie to keep my older guy company because I think it really does help. My older guy had an upset stomach and separation anxiety the first few days, but I really tried to instill a routine and I made sure I still gave them lots of attention and affection when I was home and I also made sure they got their walks that they were used to...even if I had to get up earlier to do it. They have totally regressed with potty training....they are used to going out when they ask, not when they have to...so I've cleaned up lots of accidents....but amazingly, they've done really good with eating, which has been my main worry as they are picky eaters. I purchased a nanny camera that I am going to hook up to my phone so I can check in on them when I am gone...and I've also looked into having pet sitters. For me, it wasn't a tough decision to go to work...it's just hard to leave them. If I don't go to work, I won't be able to put a roof over my head or food on my table for me or the boys. Everybody keeps telling me that they are dogs and they will be fine....and maybe they are right, but it still doesn't feel good to walk out the door and leave them. I am really hoping the nanny cam will help me feel better. Hopefully, I will look in and they will just be snoozing on the couch all day waiting for my return!! |
