So glad she still seems to be ok. I'd still watch her very carefully, though. When a mammal (any of us) hits their head, the brain moves a little within the skull. This means the brain itself and its protective layer is thrown against the inner casing of the skull. Then the force moves it back a bit in the opposite direction. This can cause "bruising" of the brain on both opposite sides. Think of the brain like a ball on a stick (the stick is the part that connects to the spinal cord). The movement from the impact of hitting the floor/object can also cause some diffuse "shearing" of vital neural connections just from the movement of the brain "ball" on top of the "stick". Although your baby may seem alright now, she could very well have damaged some soft tissue. I'd not let her play too hard right now, and certainly NO rough play for as long as you can control it. She needs time for any "bruising"/damaged neural connections to heal. The vet was right in that an x-ray would not have shown any soft tissue damage or early swelling. A CT would have, but guess he didn't see any obvious symptoms to warrant that $$$$ expense at this point. Above advise about watching for neuro symptoms is very good advise!!!!

By a specialist.....there was a concussion involved and there could be swelling in the brain, which would warrant medication to preent the swelling. I am no vet, but my nursing xperience tells me you never give ANYTHING that would sedate anyone with a concussion....you mask critical symptoms doing that. You need to have a specialist asses this pup.

She could still have a good bruise where she hit her head so I wouldn't take her to a groomer right away. She may still be tender. Is she walking normally and eating alright? If so that is a good indication that she is doing well.

You could work on the mats yourself. Just comb her out carefully a little at a time and don't let her get to excited or stressed about it. She is such a cutie.

You should at least trim the hair around her eyes so she can see well, especially since she needs to be a bit careful due to the open font. Don't want her bumping into things or misjudging distances, etc.

BTW was this one of the same vets that saw her early on, regarding her open font; and if so do they notice it closing any at all?

Hope she's feeling better today.

Please cut/have the mats cut out. Mats pull on their skin and hurt them and can get so much worse in such little time. Especially if she has a soft spot and is matted around it...ouch!! Hope she's doing ok!

yes it was one of the drs i went to before since it he was close and my only option(i really dont like them the one i prefer is 30 mins from me) they have diff drs though so i didnt end up seeing the same one who first saw zoey...she is six months and the space which was about an inch is still an inch although the spot in the middle may have a hardened a bit it could be just a tough membrane i guess...as for the mats it not down to her skin yet...and i know i cant believe that it gets matted so quickly i brush her hair several times a week and may miss a day or two in between but as her hair gets longer so does the chances of matting i guess! im on the dematt mission lol...and there are no matts around that area but thats a great suggestion i never thought of it pulling around her soft spot thanks for the suggestion!
zoey was quiet yes and today but just about an hour or two she was getting feisty which is her personality so shes slowly coming back... im so happy shes almost back to herself...i cant believe this happend i was in complete shock yesterday and still cant get that sound out of my head...shes is tiny! Her personality is so fearless i was super scared when her head got hit...I honestly feel like its my fault she is small and i should have been extra careful...im always yelling at other people!

Poor baby, I'm glad to hear she's almost back to herself.

As for the matts, I'd saturate them with coconut oil and try to carefully work them out. If that doesn't work I'd cut them out.
It's much easier to brush them every day than to skip a day and have to deal with matts.

Don't beat yourself up about it. Accidents happen. I have seen Gracie start to squirm and twist when someone was holding her. She was trying to go greet someone else and almost fell on her head because she was trying to get away so quickly. They get so excited sometimes and they are so strong for such little tykes.

She is just going to need extra TLC for a few days. Sounds like you are keeping a close watch on her. It's always good to have the number of a good emergency vet where you can easily get to it if need be.
