Yorkie pooping clear mucus? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Just a few minutes ago my 6 month old yorkie squatted down to poop when I took her out, and it was mucusy with a little bit of feces, and then she started dragging her butt along the ground. I couldn't see any worms in it and she occasionally did that when poop would get stuck to the hair in her butt before I trimmed that area short. Then for the next 5 minutes or so she would repeatedly squat down and poop a small amount of clear mucus and then drag her butt on the ground. Has anyone here had this happen? I ask because my vet's office is closed on Thursdays and I don't want to go elsewhere unless it's an emergency. She has since stopped and is active and in good spirits, so doesn't look sick at all. Oh how I wish I would have taken a good look at her poop this morning when I took her out right after she woke up. I normally do, but it was dark outside and I didn't get a good look.

Poor baby... She could have a parasite.. Was she ever tested?

Last time she pooped mucus was about 2.5 months ago, so I took a fresh poop sample in to my vet and everything tested ok. No worms or parasites. I also have had her on Heartguard for 3 months now. She was eating some bird crap off the back patio yesterday before I got there to hose it all down. ARRGGGGGHHHH, why do these pups love to eat crap!?!?!

LOL.. Bird poop is really really bad for them, please try to stop her from getting it.. I had to take my bird feeder away because I learned how bad bird poo was for Dogs!

I would just watch her, if you notice an excessive amount of mucus, or if you see any blood, or even any changes in her health- take her into the Vet.

Ooops, gotta make a correction: she has been on Heartguard for 2 months. I was thinking three because I gave Cook her third dosage of it yesterday. I thought Heartguard was supposed to protect against worms and parasites?

Has she had anything different/new to eat? Usu when there's mucus in poop, it means the large intestines or colon is inflamed & the lining being expelled. As long as there's no blood, no diarrhea, no vomiting, she should be ok, just a slight irritation. If accompanied by any of the other symptoms mentioned above, vet visit will be in order.

Yes, Heartguard is to prevent Heartworms, it will treat and control hookworms and roundworms.

Do you know what she has eaten, usually if something has irritate the intestines you get the slimey goop. This will happen to my boys if they steal some of the neighbour dogs kibble when they visit. I little probiotic or plain greek yoghurt and perhaps a digestive enzyme for a couple of days and you should see an improvement. Feed her a little cooked chicken or turkey for a couple of days, it's a pure protein and will be gentle on her guts

None of that, and she was running around outside a few minutes ago when we were hanging out in back. She seems perfectly normal so far, and had a big breakfast of her Royal Canin kibble (I'd say 1/4 cup or so). I have seen her have a soft stool every once in a while, but never clear mucus except that one time I took her in and had a poop sample tested (tested clean).

keep an eye on her, it could be time to just upgrade to a better quality food

Crap, I think I may have found the culprit.

Coleus | ASPCA

She kept going after this one plant in the yard, and sure and enough, I just looked it up and read it causes diarrhea.

Was the other time when you gave her heartguard also? If then, it might be the heartguard...as long as she's not showing any other symptoms she should be fine. But it wouldn't hurt to give your vet a call & relay to him what's happening every time she takes the heartguard. Allergic reactions to heartworm meds are very rare, but I have one that gets runny poppies when he takes sentinel, so vet prescribed RX clay.

It hasn't happened the other two times she took Heartguard. I think it's this stupid plant she has taken a keen interest in the last couple of days that I just found out is bad for dogs. Needless to say, it's going into the front yard right now.
