BRAVO!!!! This was a good thing!!

I am sure the "terminally ill lady" was filled
with gratitude, relief and peace of mind knowing her little girl was going to a very loving
home and will be taken care of. This person needs your prayers and support at
this time instead of rehashing all the mistakes she may have made in her lifetime.
Does she have other dogs that need to be rescued??? Does she have some dogs
that she would like to keep in her life at this time but needs help with??

Sorry for the rant!!! but this just struck me wrong this am. Being a survivor of cancer
I had so much wonderful support and love from friends family and people I did not even know.
I know that had a major effect on my recovery. Be thankful you are able to help this lady
and now have a wonderful little girl to love the rest of her life.

By the way, I just paid $70.00 for dental care and antibiotics for one of my little girls.
That included extracting several teeth and cleaning plus meds.

Ah the US, that is the most inexpensive dentals ever. wish it was that fairly priced in Canada

I was thinking about a woman that used her dog to breed and make money off and now wants to pawn her off to someone else to take care of. I think the OP must be a wonderful person to take this on, and I bow down to her because I sure would not be willing to take this dog in.

Who's your vet, my friend said he takes his dogs to Danforth vet for dentals, he said it's around $400.
Don't go near my old vet at village gate on Bathurst, he wanted $900 for teeth that were not really in need of it.

Whether someone is ill and dying doesn't make it ok if they did wrong. You can't just excuse every sick person for the things they have done wrong. This was a women who bred her dog for money obviously she didn't love the dog that much!

Oh trust me dentals are not normally that cheep. My moms rescue had one in dental health month with a percent off and it still cost a little over $300.00 and Callie had an emergency dental to remove a tooth and we were not charged for it being an emergency but it cost a bit over $500.00

My cousin just paid $800 for her medium sized dogs dental. She had to have a cleaning and quite a few extractions.

Wow I have never heard of $70.00 for a full dental work up, dental's require be putting under and a good vet would also want to do blood tests before putting a dog under. You are very lucky to find it so cheap.

Someone suggested calling around for prices, that is a good idea. I did that when I got Lola, in metro Detroit the prices vary widely and the higher the price does not mean you wind up with better care.

Also I did not read the OP's other thread about the lady wanting $2,000.00 for the dog, so this is the first I am hearing that, well that just is WRONG and to me is another indication that this lady is more about $$ money $$ than loving her dog. And on top of it must love laying guilt trips on people, "either you take my dog or I will have to put her down", who says those kinds of things!"

Judgmental much? I think you are letting your experience taint the way you are reading this. Also I would think after your own stated experience, that you would be more compassionate about anyone willing to help!

Also speaking as someone who has had direct experience with this - just because someone has cancer or a terminal illness doesn't give them a free pass and we shouldn't "talk" about reality. They still need to do the right things. They still deserve real discussion and frankness. For their own sake as well!

While I don't think this was the OP's intent - I would be questioning how someone who was a breeder was not taking care of their dog too. Cancer or not - particularly if I were signing on for 10 years of care. I would be surprised and want to know how to deal with the teeth issue too. I would want to know what the consequences were of not spading her after she was done being bred! And I personally think - wow - she would put her dog down if one specific person doesn't adopt her???

Yuck. I don't get it.

Your statements of " How can people let things like this happen to furbabies
that they "love"? and "How can a woman that says she loves her dog have let
her teeth rot out?" just set me off. Were you really sincere in your quest for information
you could simply ask your questions concerning the health and care of this
little dog without bashing this lady. Right or wrong, she has enough problems
right now.

Default dental issues

Thanks for taking her in....I had to go through a similar situation with my
Sassy who is no longer with us...when i rescued her from a breeder that didnt want her anymore she was 6 years old and spent that time in an outdoor kennel run with 3 other females in the same run..She stunk so bad and was matted, skinny and scared to death when i got her. I shaved her down, bathed her and tried to get her to eat but she refused to eat even though she was hungry...so i looked in her mouth and her teeth were so awful....i got her spayed in belton....and then when i moved to lampasas i found a vet there that would work with me i got her teeth taken care of. it cots $222 for a dental, and extracting ten teeth it also included the antibiotics and everything else.... Just call around to all the vets and even see if you can find a vet school in your area...Good luck and I hope everything works out well for you

I didn't read that as bashing the lady. Rather, I read it as sincere concern about whether or not she was capable of following through with the request to take the dog.

At least the initial lack of care for this dog likely took place prior to the terminal cancer diagnosis. Therefore, the question is valid.

Back to the topic.

It seems that the cost of dentals and spays seems to vary greatly by region. Around here, a spay can run $75 - $200, and a dental starts at about $200, depending on how extensive it is and whether or not you do pre-OP blood work.

It's not.

$70 would likely only be for extractions and not a true dental. It almost certainly wouldn't include pre-OP blood work.

I placed an 8 year old yorkie in a home when her elderly owner was terminally ill (I had never met the dog or her owner).. The lady asked my friend to have her euthanized after she was gone. I met the dog and loved her so I set about finding someone to take her. The dog had never had any shots so I took her to the vet and explained the situation. I asked them if they could possibly give me a "rescue" discount since I was in the process of trying to find her a home. THEY DID!!! I paid about half of what the shots would normally have been. Maybe if you explained the circumstances they would offer you a rescue discount. It might be worth a try.

Thank you impish.
My boyfriend agrees...this is all very shady...
I met the pup the other night and she has very bad teeth. I asked the lady through text today if she could take her to a vet to get an evaluation on her.
She bluntly said no...take the dog or leave her. But if I don't decide to take her that she will put her down.

to keep all the info on this topic current, above is a post made by the OP on another thread. I am sorry but I would run from this lady, she might be sick but she does not sound like a loving yorkie mom. Yorkie Talk has some very sick yorkie moms on here and I know none of them would have this attitude. Here are some new questions and thoughts I have, how do we even know this lady is sick, how do we know this lady does not know about other problems this dog has and is just looking for a person to pawn it off to to take care of all the necessary vet bills. To me there are to many what iffs. If I was a rescue group with funds to take care of what may arise I would think about taking this little girl in. But as an individual that would be on the hook for all the expenses and possible heartaches I would not be willing to without knowing what I might be in for. It speaks volumes to me when someone wanting to rehome a dog would say take her as is or she will be killed. This is not like buying an is used car or appliance it's a living breathing creature.

I've heard/read stories where people that claim to "love" their perfectly healthy dog/cat put them down simply b/c they're not able to take care of them anymore.

For what it's worth, I hope things work out for the best for the dog..
