| Question about a certain behavior (poodle not yorkie) I'm doggiesitting a poodle. A bit of a background: His name is Lui. I think he is between 1 and a half and 2 years old. He isn't neutered. He was bought from a pet shop. I know it was very wrong and I explained why to my friend. Don't know how old he was when my friend bought him. Here is my question. He smell my dogs's personal parts way too much. Constantly he's trying to smell and maybe lick them. My dogs don't like it and they walk away but Lui follows them and doesn't leave them alone. They haven't growled or try to bit him but i'm afraid they'll get tired of him and maybe snap at him or something worse.. What can I do to try and stop him from this habit? He'll be staying with us this whole week and I want to find a way to make his stay a nice one for him and for my dogs. Thanks in advance PS: when I'm in arms reach I give him a little poke when he's "in trance" (that's how I call it ) but after a couple of minutes he's back in his trance

| He is interested because he isn't neutered. If you want to completely stop this behavior, I would just keep them separated. I couldn't ever own an unneutered male dog... Just not something I would be willing to deal with.

| I know how you feel. After seeing his behavior I'm more grateful that we chose to neuter Rufus. So basically he won't stop smelling them? No matter what I do?

| When we are out walking, Teddy will sometimes sniff near Max's belly (both are neutered). They both like to mark outdoors and I think Teddy is "checking in". I clap my hands and call Teddy's name, and he stops. I would try that with Lui every time he does it. Maybe even add in "no!". Keep trying to redirect his attention. By the way, being unneutered will also contribute to thinness. Breeders often have to increase their stud's food intake when a girl in heat is around.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try to have something in hand to redirect his behavior.

Excellent tips Kristin gave you. If Lui likes fetching ball, you might want to redirect his bad behavior by squeaking the ball or giving him his fav chew or something. Some dogs respond well to a simple stern 'No', but if that doesn't work, try tethering him to you & you can keep him from following your guys around. You'll have your hands full for a week GL!

| It's day 4. So far it's going ok with Lui. He responds to the 'no' command so that's what I use if he's to fixated on the dogs. Lui's mostly fixated on Rufus rather than Nena. My bf thinks that it's because Nena doesn't let him but I think that it's because Rufus is a male. My dogs don't really want anything to do with Lui. They are always together and far away from Lui. They don't really play anymore because every time the start playing Lui get's to excited and starts barking at them and chasing them. When we go out we keep them separated because we don't trust them together without supervision. At night we let Lui sleep in the room with us all because otherwise he starts crying. But we keep him on a leash because he keeps on jumping on the bed even though we tell him to go down. The first two days he peed in the house but it stopped (thank goodness ) Walking on the leash is going better. In the beginning he wanted to stop and mark everywhere but that stopped. Now he waits until we get to the grass for him to pee and poop.

| Lui's parents are going to come back to a new & improved dog! This made me giggle: "My dogs don't really want anything to do with Lui. They are always together and far away from Lui." I took care of 2 female retired breeders for a friend when she adopted them from a show breeder & it was no fun for my guys either. My vet spayed them & they had their teeth cleaned for the 1st time bc my friend's vet was not comfortable working w/small dogs. The females were so mean to my guys, growling & nipping @ them! I had to keep them in an ex-pen bc they were not house trained & whenever one of mine went to the bathroom, she would follow & pee over their pee, marking I guess. It's hard having an intact female or male, IDK how some people do it.

| Awww poor Lui, just wants some friends!!! J/K Good job on teaching him No.. I would just stick with that- teach that little booger how he is suppose to act!! Hopefully when his Mom picks him up she will continue to train that nasty behavior. My good friend has a neutered male, he ALWAYS humps Peanut. ( Peanut is also neutered) it's REALLY annoying... when we walk he will try to hump in, in the store at my house, and his house anywhere.. Peanut is pretty submissive and will just let him. I will ALWAYS correct Todd when he does that, if I'm there Todd is not allowed to behave that way. However my friend will not correct Todd for some reason.. it is really annoying. I wish people would just teach their dogs how to behave..
