| false pregnancy My 3 year old yorkie is going through a false pregnancy... I have a question... Did she go thru heat and I not notice? (Weird cuz my sheets are white and she lays to watch tv with me daily) ... Or will she get her period once this passes and how long will this false pregnancy last. I decided that since I really don't no anything about breeding and I don't have the heart to give away puppies I will have her spayed after all this ends. However I want to understand if she went into heat and this suddenly happen ??? I never saw her bleed.... She is due for her period soon. |

| Normally a false pregnancy follows a heat cycle. They can be very clean and you missed it, or she had a silent heat. I'm glad to hear you plan on spaying! Mentally, this will be very hard on her, as she will look for puppies. You might get her a small stuffed animal that she can cling to for a while. She will eventually give up the stuffed toy, but in the meantime give her something to cuddle to while her hormones get back to normal. |

| Is it possible that right now in this condition she can get pregnant? I took her out today and a boy yorkie went nuts tried to hump her.. I didn't allow it but I want to know I case my husband takes her out and isn't paying attention. Also once I spay her will she change? I've heard they stop being loveable and get fat and lazy.... Is that true? That's the only reason I waited ... I love this dog and I don't want anything bad to happen. |

| Also she has milk in her breast ....she licks her self a lot so the vet gave me a cone to keep her from licking herself. However she cries with the cone on A lot... Gets mad doesn't want to move around or nothing. Should I take cone off and let her to that? |

| My old Yorkie, Megan, was spayed at the age of 12, she had a heart condition, which is why she wasn't spayed before. When she got spayed it was because she had a bladder infection so bad, the vet had to operate. Megan never got fat, and she stayed as loving as she had always been, the same with the Brittanies I have had in the past. I never noticed any change in her behavior afterwards. I don't think she will change, but all dogs are different. Good luck, and I wish you the best outcome with her. Cheers Quad

| I had a foster with a false pregnancy once. It made her very mean. It took about 3-4 weeks for the milk to be gone and for her to return to her sweet self again. We let her mother little stuffed toys, and removed them over time one by one. Her milk decreased and eventually she gave up trying to "nurse" the last "baby". It was hard on her, and sad to watch. A couple weeks after that, we spayed her, and she has been fine since. Spaying will not make their personality change, nor will it make them fat. If fact, it will help keep them healthier. Best wishes that your little one recovers quickly.
