| Opinions of my baby's coat please! I know the question has been asked a thousand times because I've read so much here lol, but I was wondering if the kind posters here would once again help me with an answer to the question of "What kind of hair texture do you think my baby will have?". Looking, reading, seeing all the photos, I've yet to find one that matches her really. She will be 14 weeks old in 2 days & the sweetest little thing weighing in this morning at 36 oz. I'm going to link to photos of her & her mom and dad as I can't seem to get the forum to upload mine. The dad actually has several champions in his blood line beginning with his grandparents. The thing is I dream of her growing a long and beautiful coat, but? I'm beginning to worry already about that. So hard to be patient lol! Her hair seems so strange to me, on her legs it is short and a slight bit more coarse, on her neck, front part, & belly it is all one length, longer and so smooth and silky and yes, the oily look, but on her back half she has the same long hair, but it is like she has an undercoat of really thick fuzzy hair that is only a little over 1/4 inch. She just doesn't look like the other puppies I keep forever looking at photos of lol. I'm confused! Ella Rose Photos by falnangl4u | Photobucket Hmm? I tried to arrange the photos in that album, but they didn't show up right on the link, sorry... Be patient, I'll learn! Last edited by falnangl4u; 09-16-2013 at 01:11 PM. |

| One more question, at her age, shouldn't her hair be a bit longer than it is by looking at your photos, and shouldn't her lips and eye rims be more black? I'll always luv her no matter, but yet I'm crossing my fingers. I have an 8 yr. old yorkie that is the love of my life, but wishes never made her hair grow, I'm just hoping that with the new baby I can have that experience! |

Yorkie Yakker | She's a cutie she's also a young puppy that is not her adult coat it's her puppy coat. Our Maya's hair was all over the place when she was a puppy. At 7 months we had her groomed and she was shaved because her coat was full of mats. Now at 10 1/2 months her hair is growing really nice and she's changing color. Don't worry it will be fine. |

| It's a little early to tell, but she's already beginning to look silky to me. |

| Laddy has the silky coat and it took him 2 years to quit changing and finally grow a coat. Kyra has a modified that grew very quickly but tangles easily.

| Thanks for the responses! Sooo, I suppose my fear is all that short fuzzy thick hair that's under there, it's like an undercoat though I know that's not possible. The more I've read here and the more photos I've looked at I began to worry that her mom from the photo might be a redleg? Maybe she'll be a modified? part silky and part cottony lol. I wonder how long before I'll even have a good idea? Has anyone else experienced that short fuzzy stuff? If I were to cut off the long thin stuff she would only be about 1/4" long on the back top part! Last edited by falnangl4u; 09-16-2013 at 01:38 PM. |

| The think undercoat hair could actually still be puppy coat hair. Is her black hair beginning to turn silver at the roots yet? My Bella started turning noticeably silver at the roots by 12 weeks, and when I had her groomed at 16 weeks, she looked completely silver and tan. If your Yorkie is not turning color at all, she could be a red leg. That's not a bad thing, because red legs are special and relatively rare. |

| Her head is breaking silver but that's all at this time. I comb her twice daily with a flea comb, i do get some of the fuzzy in the comb. I'll love her the same no matter, it would be nice though from 2 dogs to have long hair on at least one lol. Should her back be beginning to show some color by 14 weeks as a norm? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-grooming.html I think that Bella is fairly typical for a silky Yorkie, but keep in mind that not all Yorkies develop at the same rate. | |

| Still around today and looking / reading... Some of the most lovely dogs here! I'm yet wondering, with the real beauties that I'm looking at, did any on them ever have the super thin leg hair or fuzzy undercoat that Ella seems to have & how did they end up if so growing up? She's my baby, but I'm yet so hoping for that long beautiful coat that I see on the avatars & albums. I'm feeding her Royal Canin with a touch of Missing Link, and I've just began adding a bit of the fish oil on top. I also just received a bottle of the Ice on Ice that I've read of here & will begin using it with her daily brushing. Any other advice would be great. This is a fantastic place to learn! BTW, How do I get a photo to post here? What is the maximum size, or I wonder why I can't? Last edited by falnangl4u; 09-17-2013 at 10:22 AM. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | She is a cutie. It could be she has a silk coat. I heard they take a little longer to come in and may not be as fluffy as cottony coated ones. Pixie my silky coated one was 13 months when I got her so I don't know what she looked like as a puppy. But a silky coat is worth the wait. As far as pictures you need to resize them. I resize to 400 by 600.

| Thanks for the reply, either way I luv her however she turns out, but I'm yet hoping. The 'undercoat' of such sure is confusing, I know my older dog Tia who is now 8 yrs. never had the such, but she never grew long coat either no matter what I tried. I eventually gave up and accepted the fact. With spending $800 on this new pup, seeing it's pedigree with champions on the fathers side, I was sure hoping. The more I look at the mama's photo, the more I wonder if she was a red leg? Ella looks much different than Tia did as a baby. I can't find anywhere about the 'undercoat' appearance that Ella has anywhere, and I've been reading so much. I know the real answer lol, 'Be patient & wait', but I've never been a patient person lol, so I'll wait, but keep trying to guess in the meantime lol. I think she's just beautiful, even if such a brat! This is the hardest puppy to train I've ever ran into, she's a mind of her own. I guess that's what yorkies are all about & why I luv them though. Tia's been a blessing, and I'm looking forward to many years of puppy kisses! |

| Hello again pstinard! Bella is so beautiful, I was amazed at your before and after photos from the groomers, hardly looked like the same dog! She really is a sweety. I've seen some posts where they say some dogs don't start to turn on their backs until like 6 months? I've parted that hair and looked a few times in the last little bit, but nothing but black lol. She doesn't mat at all yet, I comb her 2-3 times a day with a flea comb. I've found she's just too little for the brush I've got. That's another question for the future lol. I'm hoping that's a good sign though. She does really seem so silky, but I wonder if it's only the puppy hair and that unsightly fuzz underneath is her real coat that's to come. If so I guess I'll just have a fuzzy wuzzy puppy & will luv her the same. It's just so strange, I've not seen nor heard of her type of hair before. |
