| Potty training regression after spay. First the good news: Bella is recovering nicely from her spay on Monday, she has her old energy level back, and I have to work hard to keep her from doing her old jumping and cat-chasing routines. She'll have her stitches out a week from Monday. Now the bad news: Although she is very good about peeing on her potty pads, she has completely forgotten about pooping on her pads. In fact, she seems to go out of her way to poop on pillows and bedding where she KNOWS she shouldn't be doing that. I did some internet searching, and apparently this kind of thing is not that unusual, and stops within a few weeks. I just hope my (and my partner's) nerves hold out that long. In the meantime, we are watching her more closely, and doing some scheduled crate training time if it's been a long time since the last poop and we can't keep an eye on her. I'll keep everyone posted on how long it takes before she is potty trained again... |

| Aw! Poor Bella! Yes it is quite normal for them to regress in their training. I think it has something to do with the anesthesia, IDK. Just go back to the beginning and use the method that best worked for her. She'll be making you proud in no time flat!

| Yes!! But, Lexi was the opposite. She always pooped on her pad, but peed elsewhere. She was 100% potty trained before the spay. A couple of days after is when it started. She was eating and then went in the opposite direction of her pad and pottied on the carpet. She has never pottied on the carpet. Then, downstairs she was standing right next to the pad, ran far away at full speed and pottied on the area rug. She was looking directly in my eyes when she did it. She only did this when I was home. When I was at work she went on her pad just fine. I really think she was mad at me for putting her through the spay. She always made sure I was looking at her when she did it. I would have thought that her bladder was a little weak from the spay, but she was usually close to her pad then she'd shoot off in the opposite direction farther away that she initially was from the pad. So, after I gathered my wits, I went back to praising/treating. After the first praise/treat she was back in order, 100 percent. Thank God! But, I kept the praise/treat going for a week or so just to be sure. I'm glad Bella is feeling better and I hope she gets back on track real soon.

| Just thought I'd give an update. Bella got her stitches out yesterday, and she has begun to potty in the correct location again. I'm guessing that it was probably her discomfort that was causing her to lose her house training, but things seem to be back to normal. |

| Ah crap, I'll be getting Cookie spayed in a month or so, and am not looking forward to taking a big step back in housebreaking.

| Don't worry, it doesn't happen to all of them. Some do have a slight set back, others don't.

| With Bella, once we knew what was going on, we would put her in her potty area three or four times a day, and that would take care of her needs. It's the first few days after her spay that it took us a while to figure out what was going on and how to handle it. She may have had six or seven accidents in total, but it did traumatize us, because she had been perfect before her spay. |
