| Hello and quick question Hi everyone, I'm new to the group. I am the proud mother to two completely different yorkies from the same litter. Male and female. Chloe is almost twice the size of Gucci. They are amazing and make world a happier place. There is one small issue. Chloe will not allow Gucci to eat. How can I get them to eat only their own bowl? |

| Welcome. Sorry, I can't help with your question. MybBella will eat from everyone's bowl if I don't watch her.

| My Dad had 3 dogs, none of them were Yorkies, but he taught them where their bowls went, and only let them eat from their own bowl. He said it took a couple of weeks for one of the dogs to get it, but Angel finally did. He put the bowls a couple of feet away from each other, and always in the same spot, he also stayed with them for the 1st month during meal time. If that doesn't work, try feeding them one at a time or in separate rooms. Good luck, and I hope this helps. Cheers Quad

YT 2000 Club Member | I feed my girls at the same time, same spot but a foot apart. I don't always stay there but it is usually feeding time during our meals, so I am usually in the area to monitor the feeding!

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. How old are Chloe and Gucci? My boys are brothers from different litters. We brought home Teddy, our younger one, when he was 8 months old. He wanted to eat out Max's bowl and would push Max away. Like Deb, I separate the bowls by a couple feet. The bowls are also against different vertical surfaces, one against the wall and the other against the end cabinet. We had to use a babygate divider for the first week. Then we supervised. We still have to keep an eye on them and correct Teddy if he tries to get into Max's bowl.

| I am guessing the Chloe is dominant over Gucci....and basically she is guarding "her" resources. If you think about it in "wild" survival aspects...it's natural pack mentality. The strongest animals are the ones that get the most to eat...they get the best parts of the animal as well...and that's how they keep their health and strength. On top of that, if you starve the competition out, you now have access to ALL of the food/resources. One thing that may help~try putting Gucci's food down first and let him start eating first....and put his food a few feet away from Chloe's bowl. Not right next to it.. The dominant dog always eats first. So by feeding him first, you are giving him power. Most likely, you are also going to have to supervise the feedings to make sure that Gucci eats. I have the same thing happen at my house. My older dog will bully my younger dog off his food, IF I let him. My younger, submissive dog eats the best when everyone is out of the kitchen and its quiet. I think one of the reasons why my younger dog was skinny after being at arescue for months, was because feeding time wasn't supervised and other dogs would bully him off of his food. |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk! The only thing I can think of is to move the bowls a good distance apart or feed them in separate rooms. Sorry if this isn't much help and good luck!

| When we bought Abby home, the vet told me to feed them separately to prevent any trouble. I think Abby was also undernourished because the other pups were pushing her out of the feeding dish (she is so sweet and unassuming) I feed the big dog in the other room, keep an eye on Ziva at my computer and feed Abby in her expen. The older two eat in a few minutes and Abby can take her time. |

| I had to train my large dogs to eat form their proper place, my Aussie used scarf his food then try to eat the labs food. I placed the bowls about 3 ft apart and monitored them while they ate. Any time my Aussie would walk towards the labs, would say ahh-ahh, then redirect him to his bowl. I kept doing this until the lab was done or he walked away to another part of the house. |
