I am guessing the Chloe is dominant over Gucci....and basically she is guarding "her" resources. If you think about it in "wild" survival aspects...it's natural pack mentality. The strongest animals are the ones that get the most to eat...they get the best parts of the animal as well...and that's how they keep their health and strength. On top of that, if you starve the competition out, you now have access to ALL of the food/resources.
One thing that may help~try putting Gucci's food down first and let him start eating first....and put his food a few feet away from Chloe's bowl. Not right next to it.. The dominant dog always eats first. So by feeding him first, you are giving him power.
Most likely, you are also going to have to supervise the feedings to make sure that Gucci eats. I have the same thing happen at my house. My older dog will bully my younger dog off his food, IF I let him. My younger, submissive dog eats the best when everyone is out of the kitchen and its quiet.
I think one of the reasons why my younger dog was skinny after being at arescue for months, was because feeding time wasn't supervised and other dogs would bully him off of his food. |
