YT 1000 Club Member | What is the best info/advice you've gotten from YT? Since you've joined this forum what is that "standout" bit of advice you've received? Something that really helped you and got you through the day, week, month and that you still use today? Advice that you would pass on to others...It doesn't have to be Yorkie related . |

My best bit of advice is potty-training-wise..... In the early stages, say "good wee-wee/poo-poo" as your pup is actually 'going'....keep on doing that for days (how boring, every single time!)....and then progress it to "GO wee-wee" etc..... It really works, took only about 3 weeks to totally house-train Harry - it didn't even involve treats, just plenty of praise and Harry so delighted with himself that he still does that skippy-kick around the garden.... | Well, YT have taught me a lot! -The benefits of spaying my female/neutering males -Why it's best to use a harness instead of a collar -What food and diet/exercise is best for them -The best way to potty train -Why it's important to buy the breeder first -How puppy mills/BYB/greeders work and why it's important to stop them I really am very grateful of joining this community and of all the help, information and advice I've received.

| Great thread. It will be my thinkng topic while sitting in math and trying to ignore the lecture today. But to start... Somebody suggested a bile acids test for my girl after hearing a minimal symptom list. They were right about there being a problem. Get a Hide-A-Squirrel! Avoid tea tree oil. Bathe in Dawn to kill adult fleas. Table scraps are no good. Know what you are doing before hreeding. And my personal faves from YT members to me (relating to YT drama): They (YT members) are good at spending other peoples' money. Ignore them f they pressure you. Don't care so much about what others think. Avoid x member for y reason. Everybody on the internet is an expert. And from my vet relating to my girl: Go with your gut. Even if Ellie needs x things y times a day, consider yourself too. She is the one that got to hear my panic after YT caused it. lol. My advice is to watch for health problems, but don't live in fear that there is a disease behind every doorknob. Yorkies are far from healthy as a breed , but enjoy your pups and don't turn a sneeze into a panicked ER visit.

YT Addict | Best advice I received from YT: 1. when Bailey went to the vet and came home foaming at the mouth, I learned he had a peanut butter allergy. 2. What to look for when getting a puppy. 3. There is no such thing as a "teacup" yorkie. 4. How many other people love the breed. 5. Health issues to look for and so much more. Thank you YT |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh wow, what a great thread...but I've gotten soooo much great advice here, I feel I can't pick/choose! -Don't overvaccinate -Don't use collar/leash combo with yorkies -Uses for pumpkin, karo, benadryl, syringes -Stocking my Emergency doggy kit -Motivating me to take Dog CPR/First Aid And more general advice: -Go with your gut, you KNOW when something is wrong w/ your kiddo, even if/when your vet can't find it; KEEP LOOKING -When a generalist can't find what's wrong, go to a specialist, don't keep floundering around

| Great advice about over vax'ing; dx/tx. for MVD/liver shunt(thanks a million times over for all of those that helped us through it(!); dangers of xylitol; all the various red flags to be on the lookout for in irresponsible breeders; the overarching wisdom of getting one's Yorkie from a highly reputable, long-respected breeder of Yorkshire Terriers or rescuing, general little tips about occas. diarrhea or constipation, tummy troubles, hypoglycemia in tiny dogs, diagnostic testing/treatment for various illnesses/injuries, breed-specific illnesses/conditions to watch out for in Yorkies. Probably just as valuable as the advice and info is the hand-holding and support of others that care about your own dog, too. That was a shock. I expected this would be a good site for advice/stories/opinions and info but had no idea it would also be filled with people that seemed to care so much about each other and their dogs, my dog and even me. And then I was shocked to learn how much I came to care about them and their babies - almost as if I knew each of you and your babies. That was a complete surprise as I had never been and still am not a member of any other forum. So the support and caring part is just as big as the info and advice to me.

| The one thing of many, is how total strangers on the World Wide Web can be so compassionate and understanding in your time of sorrow. I will never forget that, and will forever be grateful. Information about the different types of dog food has been extremely helpful.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Members here told me about the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. I really didn't know about it, and I found my Joey through them. Seven years later, he's still the picture of health and I'm thrilled! Also, I love the Buddy Belt after seeing it on Ann's dog Marcel. I also found my little rehome through Ann also, and he's such a huge part of my life and even Joey loves him now. I'm forever grateful to YT! I doubt if I would have even considered getting a Yorkie, if it wasn't for YT, thousands of members, mad about their dogs, couldn't be all wrong.

| Info on symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to treat it (nutracal or karo syrup) saved Bella a trip to the vet during the first few weeks we had her. Advice on when to spay, and what to have done at the same time (blood work, removal of baby teeth, and microchipping). Bella will be spayed on August 26th. I will be able to pick her up at the end of the day, and she will not need an Elizabethan collar unless she licks and picks at her incision. Interestingly enough, I had to ask them to do the blood work before the spay because it's something they normally don't do for young dogs. |
