Here's the clencher -- Luma and Rosie have the SAME sire and dam but born a year apart. Rosie was not the runt of the runt of the litter but at 2.6 lbs at 6 months old she will obviously end up smaller thann luma. Not what I intended, I had hoped they'd be the same size because Luma is perfect to me, but I love them both the same!

It really, really bugs me that Luma is always ignored, because cute=smaller the better, at least to some people. This is why dogs end up in the shelter. All these threads about oh my yorkie is too big....WHY does it matter? Goodness...its all just so sad... A yorkie is a yorkie.
I agree, the smaller ones attract most of the attention! When we take our three out in public, it is hard not to get stopped by people who want to admire them. Even though, Max is a healthy 6.2 pounds and Teeka around 4 pounds, people think they are all teacups! I really think it has a lot to do with the height & bone structure and where you live. We live in Iowa and the yorkies are larger than standard. So when people see ours, they think, "Teacup" People really don't give tons more attention to Tatiana than to Max or Teeka. People are just curious about the breed!

Although my yorkies have always been under 5#, I also have a 16# smooth coat chihuahua. I get all kinds of comments on him for his size. Mostly, I think they think he is a pom. But they always say 'he's so BIG'! He is still small to me, but I certainly can't carry him around like my yorkies.

I would almost think that there would be more knowledge about yorkies out there. It is, afterall, one of the most owned dogs around. Seems like with so many people either having one or knowing people that do have would know a little more about the breed.

You would think so! I guess ignorance is a stubborn thing.

My mom has a yorkie that weighs 18 pounds. his mom was 6 pounds and dad was 4 1/2. The lady my mom got him from was honest with my mom when she bought him as a puppy. She had been breeding for about 5 years. She told her that she was still trying to establish her bloodlines. She also told my mom that in those five years she had two puppies grow to be quite large. My mom didnt care and got him anyway. He is the cutest thing. He is so smart. He doesnt really seem big. She gets irritated when people ask her if she is sure he is a yorkie. She originally thought wanted a small dog. Thats why she wanted a yorkie....until she saw Rusty of course. When she sees one of the smaller ones now, she is glad of his size that way he is not easily hurt. He is also very healthy and has no health problems at all. Rusty is now about 1 1/2 years old. I have a yorkie also. Millie is 6 months old and weighs 4 pounds.....and they have a blast when they play together.

I think some people THINK they are funny!! I have had many "oh its a rat in a dress " comments about Remy. I get upset if the "tone" is rude.

One time at a dog event I saw a guy with a dog about 15 - 20 lbs. cute dog, and I ask "oh what breed?" he said yorkie. I was so embarrested... because I was holding remy. I laughed and said, "well don't I feel stupid?... of course he is a york, and most important a beautiful dog but I am so used to Remy's long hair that I forgot how they can look with a short cut"

The most important is why do people want to make you feel bad? I don't get it.

But to be honest, I don't mind, because Jax doesn't really LIKE being ooohed and aweedd over and would prefer strangers just walk by him, lol.
See, that's one thing, but Luma is a big people pleaser and she absolutely loves attention from other people besides mom+dad. That's why its so sad, and it kinda breaks my heart, that people ignore her and coo over Rosie. I have learned to bring Luma on special outings without lil sis and she gets to use the small carseat up front with mommy (usually they sit in the backseat in a large snoozer) so she still feels special. People don't comment on her cuteness but she gets tons of compliments in agility class and at the groomer.

Oh and I hate the parent thing. I tell people they are full sisters and they have even questioned whether my breeder lied to me or gave me a pup from the wrong litter since their size and build is so different. So rude. And people look at me like I'm crazy because I should have gotten a boy so they can breed. Um no thanks?

One time I was at a pet store and saw a girl carrying what I think was a 9 week old yorkie and I commented how cute she was. She then asked me if mine was a teacup and as soon as I said no, I swear she turned her nose up at us. My husband was carrying ours in a carrier and might have gotten too close to look and she clearly backed away and turned around. My Chloe is only 5lbs now but is at least an inch taller and longer than most.

I seriously wondered if her "teacup" will still be considered that after a couple months! People here pay over $2K for yorkies advertised as teacups and then feel cheated when their "teacups" end up growing to standard size. I've seen some sold in the $3k range too for a "guarantee".
OMG I SO know that feeling! I mean come on! They are just making themselves look foolish. I don't understand when yorkie owners snub fellow yorkie owners! Once we were at Petsmart with Uni. She was on a leash. We saw another couple (pretty young) with a yorkie puppy in the cart (bad idea, plus looked too young to be out, but whatever ) I said, Oh you guys have one too, how cute! They (esp the girl) literally looked us up and down, rolled their eyes and walked away! Me and bf couldn't help but LOL. I mean seriously! Lighten up people!

I always hear that Joel is big for a yorkie and he is 10.8 pounds. Whenever we run into a yorkie at the park they are 1/3 of his size and are way older so when I tell them he's only 1 1/2 they're always shocked lol but hey I need him to get bigger because his Doberman puppy friend is outgrowing him by a lot, they were the same size for a few days haha!

I usually get "oh.. is that the mom and daughter?" before I get the "are you sure he's a yorkie?..." and then "oh.. she's a teacup!"

I'm not offended or anything by it. Most people I've come across just don't know so if it seem like they're willing to listen, I correct them. If not, then I just smile, let them pet Magnus and go on my way. Zoey not so much because she hates/scared of strangers.
