| It takes a while for kennel cough to completely go away. In fact, it can take a few months. Don't worry. The antibiotics are helping. It just takes some time for their little bodies to get rid of anything respiratory related. If it makes you feel better, you could give your vet a call to have her retested to see if her counts are lower. At least then, you'll know you're on the right track. I had a rescue with kennel cough that developed to pneumonia. It might be good to schedule a follow up appoinment if you're really concerned. If one of my babies has an infection that they can't kick, I request an antibiotic injection that lasts for 2 weeks. I'd have to look up the name of the medication. But if you ask your vet, I'm sure he'll know. Good luck!!

| She has been on cough tablets and has been on antibiotic for 2 rounds... She is starting to spit up a little when she coughs... Is this normal for kennel cough? My vets out of town till tomorrow but the spitting up scares me. |

| Momo had KC when he was a pup & it lasted a long agonizing 3 months. He was on several different kind of antibiotics bc the kc just wouldn't go away & his cough kept getting worse. Finally what worked was upping the dose to 5ml from 1ml (if I remember correctly but 5ml I'm positive of). The vet reassured me that 5ml will be ok & it won't hurt him, I also double checked w/a cardiologist specialist we saw @ the time. I'm not recommending you up the dose, but please check w/your vet & talk about other options, like a different antibiotic or possibly upping the dosage if he doesn't show any improvements after 2-3 months.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | The antibiotic isn't used to "treat" kennel cough. It's a preventative measure against pnuemonia. Using a warm mist vaporizer will help or take puppy into a steam filled bathroom several times a day. Honey also soothes a raw throat. Some get over KC quickly and some it takes a bit more time.

| Of course! I'm not saying that this will cure you baby's cough, but you can ask your vet about Cefovecin Sodium Antibitoic Injection. If I remember correctly, Cefovecin is not specifically for respiratory infections...I could be wrong, but believe it's actually for skin infections. But my vet told me that the antibiotic properties would help with the respiratory infection. Momo (my Morkie rescue) was given 2 injections - one on 8/21 & another on 9/6. Each injection was $75 (NYC prices). Her white blood cell count declined considerably after this treatment. We also had chest xrays, tracheal aspiration & various cultures done. We were not told that my poor little baby was sick & had already been hospitalized prior to us bringing her home at 12 weeks. If I would have known, I probably wouldn't have forced her to go through so much. I also would have been aware to be extra cautious with her. But for some bizarre reason, the rescue organization failed to supply me with this information. ??? Looking back at these medical records brings back so many bitter memories. We almost lost her. Sorry. Just venting for a second. Anyway, even with the injections, it took many months before she was back to "normal". Respiratory infections love to linger on forever. Since she was so young & so sick, I took her in for frequent follow ups. Her WBC count continued to decline. So I know that the injections did help her body fight off the infection. Regarding the cough & spitting up, Momo would cough a lot with frequent spitting up just like your little pup. The sound of her gagging made me feel so bad for her! In fact, she's still a cougher. It's just something we've learned to live with. I know it's frustrating to see your little one so uncomfortable. I feel your pain. Good luck!! Keep us posted!!

I also put him in the bathroom when I took a shower so the steam will help w/his congestion & also had a humidifier going 24-7 for him.
