| Where Did It Go/Poor Things I didn't want to make two threads, since both of the topics are related. A neighbor is interested in yorkies. Knocked on me door all excited because she had found some BLUE YORKIES!! OMG ARE THEY RARE???!!! for sale. I started the litany of what to look for, what you want, do not want, and hopefully scared her straight about the potential dangers of blue borns. I wanted to guide her towards what to look for from a reputable breeder and the health tests to ask about, and went looking for the thread that was made and people thought should have been stickied about what kind of health tests should people look for from their puppies parents. The search is acting wonky for me.. NOTHING is showing up. Does anyone know where that thread is? And because I thought you'd all like to see the pics...

| That's what I thought when I saw them and the neighbor was asking me which one she should buy.. I'm like NEITHER!!!! for the love of all that is doggy, PLEASE do not buy either of those puppies or ANYTHING from that site.. Every time I look at them I don't know if I want to cry or choke someone senseless. And we all know that I have very liberal ideas about breeding (compared to some)... I'd still like to find that thread, so I can try to point her in the right direction, and show her what she should be looking for. I believe that education is key, and since I don't breed, I don't have this information to pull from the top of my head to try to educate her.

| That's crazy and I feel so bad for the people who get suckered into that and end up with a sick pup.

| You said it! I hope you talked her out of both pups! Makes me want to cry, throw up, and smack a breeder all at the same time! I honestly can't believe what some have done to our breed! |

| The search is not working for me either. I know our member KendraE has a blue born and there were lots of discussions about him early on. Maybe you can find some of her posts, they may be helpful.

| I am hoping I talked her out of it. You never know with people. I know I talked her out of getting one at a pet store.. She really is a good at heart kind of person. If she does get a yorkie, I do think she'd be a good owner. This past spring she put down her Irish setter that was something like 16 years old.. The dog was always groomed and shining and as healthy as a 16 setter can be, until he had a stroke. And then she did the right thing by him, which I can only respect. I told her to go online and look for reputable breeders since she has been trying to steal Sabre and Pixie from the time she saw them, and had been saying when they put Mon Mon (Cinnamon Mon) down that she would look into a yorkie when she was ready... I mean at least she is trying to do some due diligence and research, I have been pointing her to this forum since she expressed interest, but she "doesn't do the online thing"... *shrug* But the horrors of those poor little pups, and not being able to find that thread... I wish it HAD been stickied.. I thought it was a good idea to have something like that readily accessible.

| Thank you, but that wasn't the one. The thread had a few posts where specific genetic tests that buyers should be looking for the results of. All I can think of off my head was OFAs CERFs, there is a PRA test for yorkies, hyperuricosia (something like that, I can't remember how iot's spelled and my eyes are rolling back in my head), and a few others. The whole thing was about how buyers are told to make sure the breeder does genetic tests, but what genetic tests should buyers be looking for... something like that. I have looked between pages 175 and 155... Because I think it was initially posted in December through Feb possibly... I'm going to get back to it after I wake up, if I can get some sleep.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | There have been so many great, informative threads recently about genetics thanks to pstinard. Apparently, he is a geneticist & has lots of good info tucked inside his head as well as connections that help him with some of the issues we've seen here on YT. Here are several that he's involved in that may be what you're looking for concerning the Blue genes: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...or-thread.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...s-infancy.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...le-yorkie.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...yesterday.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...uld-mixed.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...vs-biewer.html

| How horrible for those puppies, and they will probably end up with someone who hasn't a clue what it all means, or they'll become ill and their owner won't know why. I don't know much, but 1 test I recommend especially for Yorkies is bile acid testing. It tests the function and performance of their liver. Enzyme testing is usually recommended, but all that shows is damage or inflammation (when there's already something wrong with them). Bile acid testing is a good "foretelling" rather than after the fact. |
