While some States....actually apparently only 14 actually DO!....may not have a specific laws against leaving a dog in a parked car, there are very often, many other laws that will cover such behavior. I found this example:
...."While not all states have laws that address animals in parked vehicles, numerous local ordinances prohibit this, and more may be enacted. It is critical then that owners are aware of their local laws concerning this subject. Even with out a state or local law, this action could still constitute cruelty under some circumstances. In fact, in the Texas case of Lopez v. State, the defendant left his dog in his car on a hot day to go and watch a movie in a theater. He was ultimately convicted under the state's anti-cruelty law. Notably, Texas does not have a statute that specifically addresses dogs left in parked vehicles. "....... So while they may not get you with a hit from the "right hand", a knock out can and often does come from the left hand.

yes you are so right!! I just spoke with animal control and they said that even though there is no law in CT there are other laws that protect the animal. She said next time to not even confront the person take down the license and call animal control or the resident trooper. She also said that there has been two dogs die in our town this month already from being left in a parked car.

How can people do this to a dog - just leave them in a car in a car that's going to go over 100 degrees at least in 20 - 30 minutes! Poor little dog. Hopefully they won't ever chance this again with that helpless baby sitting there hot and panting. People hear over and over about dogs dying in hot cars in the news, on the internet and they still leave their dogs while they stuff their faces in restaurants or shop!!!!!!

This list is either not correct or not up to date. I know this because my Mother works for a PD in Wa & it is against the law to leave a dog in a car in the state of Wa IF the temperature gets above a certain degree & the officers carry thermometers in their cars for just this reason. Also about a week ago some IDIOT left his 4 dogs in his hot car & all died but 1 who is at a vets office & the IDIOT is still sitting his butt in the jail.
