| Vets have very little knowledge about purebred dogs. At least not beyond the chart on the wall some where in the office. Some vets do have an interest in a particular breed or two but their knowledge base would come from their own independent study of the breed. Most local vets are much like a family doctor, or what used to be called a general practitioner. You can't take what they say about what breed your dog is real seriously unless they have some personal experience of their own researching the breed. Of course 5lbs at two months of age is kind of big but you have to look at other charasteristics as well. If you think your pup looks like a Yorkie and that is all that matters to you then just forget about what the vet said and maybe find a new a new one. |

| Thanks everyone! You've all made me feel a lot better! In the vet's defense, he did mention that it wasn't absolutely impossible for him not to be a Yorkie, but just in his opinion, he couldn't be sure that he was. He'd never heard of a Parti Yorkie until I showed up with Boomer. I was upset at first, but reading all of your replies have calmed me down, thanks! |

| Many people have never heard of Parti Yorkies. One of my big Yorkies is a parti. I got him as a rehome when he was a year old, along with his AKC papers. I learned about him and that he needed a new home, saw his age (about 2-3 weeks younger than my other Yorkie), and his size (same as my other, and they both ended up to be about 16lbs). I thought they would be a good fit together, with similar size, age, and energy level ... and they have been! People have trouble identifying Jez as a Yorkie simply because of her size and her ears only stand halfway. But Chuy, my oh my! Not only is he larger than average (OK, more than twice as large as the standard), but his coat coloring is not what people expect and his ears flop. He's a "Yorkie in disguise." When people asked me what he was, I would tell them that he was a Yorkie with a parti coat. They would look at me like I had a third eyeball (and I can understand why). Really, the size, the coloring, the floppy ears! I try to explain, but I didn't think I was successful. I've actually just started telling some people that he is a "terrier mix." Twice, when I was at the vet, I've actually had people ask me "is he a Yorkie?" Once it was a groomer and then another time it was another client. Then I was the one to look at them as if they had three eyeballs! I guess I was just amazed that they could look past all of those things and still assume that it was possible that he was a Yorkie. It doesn't matter to me what anyone thinks about what breed he is. Chuy needed a new home and he was the perfect addition to our pack.

| CUTIE!! Your baby is just adorable! I'd be more concerned about treating a problem vs passing judgement if I was a vet.

| Sorry you were made to wonder if your little one is a yorkie or not. DNA testing would give you the answer...but does it really matter? If the vet had never heard of a Parti Yorkie, why did he not mention the coloring instead of mentioning his size? Love him with all your heart, he is adorable...

Op, I get that comment a lot from people in the real world. But, thank goodness my vet isn't one of them. Instead, she shows off her handsome patient to anyone that will listen and tells them how she thinks it's cute Kaji looks like a teddy bear. She is probably bringing on the charm, but I don't care! I love that she makes the effort to make me feel welcome and to make Kaji feel special. Kaji LOVES going to the vet. It's like an equivalent to a trip to Disneyland for him.

| Interesting topic. Max weighs nine or ten pounds. To me, I think that's a little big for a yorkie, so I'm planning on exercising him more. He's not fat, just heavy set. My breeder said Max's sire was big boned for a yorkie, and that most of his genes passed down to Max. Originally, I wanted a teacup yorkie at four or five pounds, but my mom and I decided that the prices were too high. I looked at a lot of websites and discovered that a lot of breeders were asking $3,000 to $5,000 dollars :O I'm happy with Max regardless though |

I counted to ten, held my tongue and thanked her for the positive report of his health.

| boomer is adorable just the way he is/ I can see if you were going to show him that his size would matter but if you got him for a pet as long as he is healthy that's all that matters. |
