| To OP, what you paid for your two is probably what my one dog costs for one vet visit with shots and tests! It takes a bit of disposable income to have a pet these days, doesn't it?

| Sounds a bit high, but not any different than around this area. However, at 13 and 11, I don't see any reason to be giving DHPP or bordatella anymore. Waste of $$$. Our yearly for one dog always ends up being close to $200 at the end of everything and I don't even do vaccines anymore (except rabies every 3 years). The exam fee alone is like $65. Jackson had green goopy eyes a few weeks ago. It wasn't going away so took him in, ending up spending $200 ... between the exam fee, the few tests they ran on his eye, he needed rabies so got it while we were there, and then the eye drop medication *sigh* He's worth it though.

| Thanks to you all...I do feel better but I still feel like I got mugged. I am going to discuss the ear swab with him cause I am sure there is no prob with her ear. What was on the Qtip was the oil from the ear cleaner I used just before leaving the house to go to the Vet. It was not totally wiped off her ear. So I am not going to give her any of the medication and that I can return but I also expect the VET to know the diff between an ear that needs to be treated and an ear that just has some of the liquid ear cleaner in it. But yes as they get older we do need more reassurance that they are not coming down with something we could have prevented so I am not too upset over Pucci's eye exam...even though that cost around $100 total, lol. Thanks again for all your help and GREAT suggestions (that we sometimes forget we have an option to do )Will still be reading posts if anyone else cares to chime in ![]() Tina

| This sounds around the the right price, the most you can do is take them to a clinic to get their shots. I took my past dog to the clinic for yearly vacciniations and had a separate vet for the checkup. The shots were usuall all around 12-18$ each, wheras my vet they were 30$ to 40$ each. When we had German Shepherds my parent usually spent a few hundreds for the yearly check up for the dogs.

| ♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Holy!! I need to move to Iowa....Raelle's spay is 700.00!!!! How much does a house cost down there....up here the average cost of a house is about half a million....in the city of Toronto! I'm just outside T.O., but its still freaking expensive. In answer to your question, not high, not for two dogs. I can see how you would feel sucker punched though....I had an outbreak of fleas last year....had to get all animals treated....$900 later we are flea free!! That bill brought me to my knees, literally, I almost collapsed!! Vet tech had to bring me water and help me to sit down....

That would be about $70.00 usd?? Office visits are about $50.00... but again for a sick pup I always have the blood work done, often xrays and then meds and follow ups. Each illness starts at $500.00 OP... If you really look at the meds you purchased and the extra test that is not so bad. To be fair it seams vet expenses are very much influenced by the cost of living of the area.

| Also, you want to check for what is needed/suggested by law in your State, as far as annual vaccinations go. I check titers, and my vaccinations have lasted on my dogs for anywhere 5-7 years! Rabies is every 3 years by law.....a lot of vets will continue to give vaccinations as there is alot of money to be made off annual vaccinations. And drop that bordetella inless you board or have your dog groomed...unnecessary. Check if the grooming shop requires it, if you have your baby groomed. | Care Credit is another way to pay over 3/6/or12 months with no interest. It is great way to space out those large vet bills |

| OK, so I guess I'm the only one sensitive to the use of the word "raped" to describe an exorbitant vet bill. I have Embrace insurance for Dori that includes wellness checks. It would have paid 80% of this bill including the exam fee. I pay $40 monthly.
