| Hi Everyone! I'm new here! :) I'm new to this forum. I'll be moving away from home in the fall for school and the apt I'll be living in allows pets and is very pet friendly. (There's a place for dogs to do their business and socialize. They even offer bags for poop and they have doggy treats) I'm really excited and really nervous to have a dog. I want either a yorkie, or something mixed with a yorkie. Like a yorkie-poo or a dorkie. Something small.(I'll be living in a studio apt) I really like this forum so far and I look forward to interacting with some/all of you. |

| Welcome to Yorkietalk. This is the best place to learn about yorkies before you buy 1. Keep us informed about your puppy hunting! and ask us questions if you have them.

| Welcome to the forum. It's nice to meet you. You have a busy life coming up ahead of you. Please use this forum to do a lot of research and ask any questions you have ok? Puppies are very time consuming for their first several months of life so I don't want you to get in over your head. Only you can know if it is right for you. I think it is awesome you are online looking into the breed. If you decide to get a mix breed, please check out the animal shelters and rescues in your area. You might find the perfect match for you and one a tad older than a young pup...could be a win/win for you and your new pup.

| Thanks for the support! Thanks everyone! Adopting from a shelter is my plan for sure. I'm a little worried because I contacted the organization that I'd like to adopt from with questions and well..the lady and I got into an argument because she was being really rude! So I hope that doesn't count against me, because believe me, I'm ready to give a dog the best life any dog could ask for. I'm actually looking to adopt a pup that's at least a year old. But a puppy could be nice too. My two biggest concerns are potty training and how well my future pup will do when I need to leave home. But I guess those are things I'll have to discuss with the adoption organization. I'll for sure ask questions, and keep everyone updated and please if you have information, suggestions, or helpful hints to offer I'm willing to listen Last edited by Neytiri; 06-14-2013 at 03:11 PM. |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk! Good luck in your search. I would definitely recommend adopting from a shelter. My mom just adopted the sweetest pure bred yorkie from our local kill shelter. What did you get in an argument with the shelter worker about?

Potty training might be something you just have to do. I've had breeders tell me a dog was potty trained, but it had accidents. New house threw the potty training off for a few days. What rescue sites are you checking? I was looking for a neighbor, and I googled Yorkshire terrier adoption or Yorkshire terrier rescue.

That's fantastic! Well to make a long story short, we got into a animal shelter vs. breeder debate. Now bear in mind I'm a well rounded individual. I look at both sides of an argument not to mention I spend A LOT of time volunteering in shelters. So of course I believe shelter animals are the way to go. However a (REPUTABLE) breeder is a perfectly legal option as well. Honestly I think it was a big misunderstanding but she was so condescending! | |

| Welcome! Yorkies are great! If you want a mix check out your local shelters or yorkie rescues. If you want a pure breed I would start looking for a breeder at the YTCA.org
