| Yet another question about insurance! I am now researching VPI pet insurance. They were talking about the $50.00 deductible. This may sound real stupid, but, does that mean that they will pay back whatever is over the $50.00? I saw that they pay back up to 90%. Does that mean, for example, if the visit is 150.00, I cover the 50.00, then they will pay me back up to 90.00? I am sorry if this is so confusing! I just want to make sure I am understanding this. The website can say all kinds of things, but I like to hear about it from someone who has this coverage, and has had to use it. If you do, how much have they actually repaid you in the past? Just curious! Thanks alot in advance if anyone responds!

| I don't have any pet coverage, but you do realize that only if you get the VPI Superior Plan plus Routine Care Coverage are the vaccinations and exams covered. With my BCBS (health) plan I have a $500 deductable, so I first must pay $500 out of my pocket and the after that BCBS will pay 80% of everything else. So after the $500, if the next dr's visit cost $100 I would pay $20 and they would pay $80..

Human insurance the 50 deductible means you pay the first 50 out of your pocket per year and you then you pay the 10% of remaining balance on the bill .. if they pay 90%.. 150.00 dollars vet bill -50 your deduct 100.00 left on bill insurance pays 90% - 90.00 insurance pays -------- leaves you to pay 10.00 So your total bill would be 50 deduct + 10.00 = 60.00 Hope this help..Sherry | |

| I am under the impression that it is 50.00 per visit, but if the dog has to make repeat visits for one diagnosis, it is only the 50.00 the first time. I will probably go for it, besides, any money I can get back is better than none. I will probably sign my boxer up, then Chewie when I get him.

| vpi's website does not state whether or not the deductible is $50 per year or $50 per incident. but they do have a toll free number you can call to check. it would be great to let us all know! |

| oh, i wanted to add, with vpi, unless you're signing up for their insurance with the routine visits option, comparing vpi and banfield is kinda comparing apples to oranges. banfield's wellness plan covers routine and preventative visits like shots and dr. visit and provide you with a discount on medication and other non-routine services. vpi, without the routine care option covers accidents and other unexpected health conditions. ie, non-routine stuff, dr visits when something is wrong. adding the routine care would give you added benefits for vaccinations and dr. visits although i feel like the coverage is kinda skimpy, like up to $10 reimbursed per year for an annual physical exam by a vet. so it really depends on what you're looking to cover. routine? accidental? or both? |
