| So a little update, I went and bought him a soft cone so he could be more comfy and he was able to reach his stitches with the cone the vet gave him. Today he is acting pretty normal maybe a bit more tired then usual but i cant blame him. Here is a pic of him with the new cone, the small was to small and the medium was a little to big so i had to modify it a touch. http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...DA4F70A9A6.jpg Last edited by Rpc07; 06-05-2013 at 04:44 PM. |

| I know exactly how you feel! They know which buttons to push in order to get away with anything

| I honestly have never heard of a vet having a cone or other protection on for as long as your vet recommended. For many years they did not even have cones. it has only been in the past 20 years or so that the cone thing came about. We didn't use anything on Gracie when she was spayed almost 3 years ago. She licked her stitches once in a while but she is not neurotic and did not do any harm. Someone was here with her at all times and she did great. Most animals know better than to open up a wound. It is just a normal function for an animals to lick a wound though. We spay and neuter stray and feral cats quite often. The feral cats have to be released as soon as they come back from the vet so of course they have nothing on them to keep them from the surgery area. We have never had an issue even though cats tend to be more into licking than dogs in general. Your little guy is so cute. He should be back to normal real soon. I'm glad you didn't go with the hard cone. They are so stressful on the neck and sleeping must be a nightmare for them! |

| Thank you for the compliment, after today I really only plan on using the soft cone when I'm not home or when he is sleeping. When I'm home I will keep an eye on him and don't want to torture him with the cone. |

| Sorry I lost track of this post. It has been a crazy few days at home and at work. So glad he is doing well. Once those stitches are out you won't even know he had anything done. He will be back to his perky old self. He's once cutie little fluff ball.

| He's precious -- even with the cone! What a face! I'd give him a treat just for having to wear that thing - a little boiled chicken perhaps? Good luck. Tracey |

| Yorkies love a little boiled chicken. Don't alter his diet too much though - or you'll get some loose stool -- and that would not be pleasant! Best wishes, Tracey |

| Thank you ![]() So tonight I took the cone off for a few hours and gave him a new bully stick and he never even looked at his stitches. He did lick the bald spot on his arm where the vet shaved him and made it a bit red, he seems more interested in his bald spot then his stitches. So I think for the next few days as long as me or my wife is home and able to watch him closely we will take the cone off him. The second I pulled the cone off him he jumped into my face and smothered me with kisses as if to say thank you. |
