| ? for those experienced with belly bands I have a 2 year old biewer yorkie male who was not neutured until about 8 months when we adopted him from the breeder...he was used as a sire so he was very much testosterone driven LOL....in other words he liked to pee all over my house!!!! if i had to do over i would have gotten a puppy because he was already very much so into the habit of peeing and marking all over the place that it has been such a pain to break him of it!! we do have him peeing outside about 70% of the time now but i've just taken to crating during the day with no belly band on to let him air out and be "normal".. dad takes him out for a pee/poo, walk, water and to eat about 3 times a day while i'm at work and up until now we had been trying the belly band but i think i was leaving them on him too long before and he was getting really gross "down there" the last 2 days though as a last resort to NOT hate my dog and be exhausted i've decided to try them again now that he's reliably going outside about 70% of the time...they have helped alot and since he's going outside more reliably now he's only having accidents maybe once or twice a day now....i just make sure to wipe him down with a baby wipe after i take the pad off him at night to keep him clean and bathe him once a week so he doesn't get yucky he's mostly white and black and i hate the gross brown color that the belly band was turning his pretty fur i hope doing it this way his fur will stay white this time....before i was kind of relying on them a little too much and probably not changing it as often as i should have but that's all over now that he's mostly going outside now any suggestions on what i can do to prevent his fur from turning brown because of the band |

| I only use the belly bands on Huey when I visit someone and might not be able to keep a continuous eye on him, so I haven't had that problem. I do know I always have to wash his belly when we get home. Although he was fixed at 6 months, he wants to mark everything he sees.

| I forgot to mention on your other thread: Using the belly band will also help to stop him from marking, as the BB catches it and eventually he'll figure out that marking doesn't do anything, except outside where it's allowed. Some dogs mark more than others, some not at all. Some females mark. Spay/neuter does not help in all dogs, whether it's done earlier or later. It helps to figure out why he is marking. My male will mark when he feels insecure. I have 3 females also who tend to run the place, and when he feels insecure, he will mark more. I found if I give him more attention, especially in front of them, he marks less or will stop completely. Your dog may be picking up on your feelings, and may be feeling a bit insecure himself. Maybe by marking he is saying, I like it here, this is my house, and I want the world to know it! I got my male as a 5 YO, after he had lived with 4 other families. He was very unsure of himself and it took me a very long time to earn his trust. I threw his bed in the wash one day and he thought I was packing his things to rehome him! I had to carry him around till his bed was dry and I put it back in it's place before he would settle down. Just saying, these guys can be very sensitive. For the coat: I used Baby wipes each time I changed the pad in his Belly Band. Sometimes I would just wash the affected hair with shampoo and conditioner. I use a lot of conditioner as it helps to prevent the hair from absorbing the urine as much. I also tried wrapping part of his coat that got in the way (like they do with Show dogs). Or you can trim the coat to prevent it being soiled by the urine. HTH...

| kjc...if that's the case...would a spray on leave-in conditioner maybe help prevent that too? i keep him cut short because i have no time or desire to deal with all the grooming that you all MUST deal with LOL, so there's very rarely any hair there i just dont want what is already there to turn a gross color!! |

| I use them on sonic when im out in town. He just turned 2 and is not neutered yet so I know about his testosterone lol. He is doing good now about not doing business in the house. I do plan on getting him neutered since the females here are spayed its all good for now. |
