Anyone get rabies vaccine at 12 weeks??

I'm happy to hear she is doing better. Very scary!

Our first vet gave Max all of his vaccinations including rabies in one day when he was 13 weeks old. He was fine, but I would never do it again. For puppies, you can wait until 5 -6 months for rabies. We also separate all vaccinations now by 3 - 4 weeks.

Wow, I'm happy to hear that! I guess it was hypoglycemia after all, and it's great that she's eating solid food after you gave her the nutrical--that's a good sign. You might consider getting another vet, because I've never heard of giving a dog pain medication for a shot, and the age of getting the rabies vaccination seems too early.

Yes we've been bringing our boxer to this vet for years & I always liked him because he's so knowledgable when it comes to boxers. My vet has two doctors, this guy & a woman. Bella seen the woman doctor before and I'm making my next appt w/the woman again. This vet clinic has good reviews but I hate that it doesn't do emergency service. I'm looking at other area vets too and I'm def not letting Bella see him again if we stay here.

Emergency service is important, so even if you do keep your current vet, keep an eye out for somewhere you can take Bella 24/7 in case of an emergency. I am blessed to live in a town that has a veterinary college.

Ty! Yes I am soo glad I didn't do both vaccines today! Now that this happened, I would never advise anyone to do more then one at a time. I've read so much & I knew that the average age for rabies was 16 weeks. Thank god I said something to him which made him think and say let's see how she does w/this one first. Hmmm she's only 4 lbs. He knew I was very concerned w/giving her two at once. I will always separate my vaccines after this, ESP w/a small puppy like Bella. More then one is just too many for some pups.

Oh yes me and my bf have been discussing what other vets are in our area. I couldn't call them tonight because they close at 5pm. But I will be calling them in the morning, I just want him to know that some pups have strong reactions & giving more then one vaccine isn't a good idea, ESP w/a smaller breed puppy. It's to risky. Hopefully she's back to her spunky self tomorrow

I'm relieved to hear that she weighs 4 pounds at 13 weeks. That's a healthy weight for a Yorkie . I pray for her continued recovery, and I expect her to be back to her normal self by morning.

The other reason to separate them is that if your baby has a reaction, you will know which vaccination is the problem.

I would also not bother with the pain med. Was the vaccination given in her leg? That was another thing our first vet did that I didn't like. I think it is better to give them between the shoulder blades.

Thank u so much! Yes she's an eater. Loves to munch this dog lol. To think when I brought her home she weighted 1.12 lbs. now she's 4lbs. I just want a happy and healthy pup.

Sorry, one more post . . . The reason I think the pain med is bad is that if a dog has a severe reaction to a vaccination -- anaphylactic shock being the worst, I would think a pain med that makes your dog sleepy would complicate things.

The vaccine was given towards the rare end of her body, I thought it was kinda in her back but now that u say leg, it could of been in the top of her leg. When she had her first shot, she didn't make a sound..didn't even know it was happening. This time, the nurse held her, she squirmed and cried. I just had gotten done telling my bf that I thought he was ruff w/her. He didn't give her the shot gently at all.

I agree. She didn't need a pain med at all. I won't let a vet give her one again for a shot ESP.

Top of rear leg -- that is what was done to Max too. I don't like this is at all.
