| Puppy coat question Hi, I posted this question under the wrong section, so please forgive me for posting again. Cooper just started shedding little tufts of hair when I brush him, and seeing as Yorkie's are not supposed to shed, I am wondering if this is normal. Has anyone else encountered this? Cooper was just at the vet last week and he is completely healthy and I haven't changed his food, so I'm hoping its normal. He doesn't have any bald spots and he's acting normal, but I do have a call into the vet, just in case. Thanks in advance, everyone.

| They will shed a small amount when you brush them that is normal. If it is excessive then I would worry.

| I think it is like human hair some will come out when brushing |

YT 500 Club Member | My male yorkie did the same thing. It really freaked me out a little as past yorkies didn't shed like that when brushed. Anyway, his hair did get thinner but eventually filled back in nicely. |

| Liberty is 2 yrs old now. When younger, the silver hair on him was more cottony and acted like that when combed - leaving some fuzzy stuff on the comb. He outgrew this stage and clearly now has beautiful silky hair - it's just now touching the ground. He's my blonde, "blue"nette, & redhead all rolled into one little dog! Maybe your little one will outgrow it. I have used the intensive hair conditioner for color treated human hair on Liberty and it is awesome! If you want to try it, try a test patch first. Also, I use a dog spray-in detangler, "Tropical Grapefruit", by top paw for in between bath combings. It smells heavenly and works well! Last edited by yakkwak; 04-20-2013 at 10:26 PM. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Our Dog's hair is almost identical in constitution as ours. It's more susceptible to breakage when it's quite dry or long, or brushed infrequently (tangles cause resistance). It's quite normal to see accumulated hair in a Comb or Brush. Regular (not excessive) bathing, conditioning and brushing reduces the loss.
