| Tuckers first Grooming...I want my baby back! Today was Tuckers first grooming. He is 6 months old......when I picked him up I was not prepared for the change in his looks! Oh, the groomer did wonderful work....but all his hair was gone...I want his little curls back...lol...I was reminded how it was when my son had his first hair cut! Now, the question is....can the hair not be cut and left at least 2 inches long? He is not shaved but he is almost an inch plus she took off the hair on the tips of his ears! Is this the normal Yorkie fist cut? I will stress agian ...the groomer did excellent work...perhaps I didn't know how to relate to her what I wanted since it was the first time for him an me! We are slowing getting used to it but I cannot wait for the hair to get back out a little! It makes his head look too big....he is just 3.4 lbs. Thanks for letting me know your thoughts on this!

| Hes looks great! Such a cutie! When Callie went for her first grooming I had, had no idea how much care a yorkies hair took and that it needed to be brushed daily and I failed that and she ended up have to have pretty much all her hair shaved off she looked sooooo different after that first grooming but her hair when it grew back was so much softer and did not tangle so bad. It takes awhile to kinda figure out what you want as far as hair cuts. You might want to look at pictures of different yorkie cuts and take some to your groomer next time.

| IMO the groomer did a great job on his face. Can't see much of his back but she did cut him way down but it looks well done and his hair looks shinny. You have a good looking little guy. In regards to the ears I can only see the front, but from the front she did it correctly. The traditional way to trim a yorkies ear, is to shave all the hair on the inside, cut and edge the outer ears to a sharp point and then tip the back of the ears, which means shave down the top 1/3 of the ear. Over the last few years there are many people that like the look of the yorkie ears to grown out long, which reminds me of a papion's (sp?) ears. What happens if you do not trim the edge of the ears they keep growing and turns into long strands of hair. If you want to see what I mean by that, look in the video section here for the Dexter Videos by Dexter and Alana she leaves her pups ears natural and it looks cute, but it is a preference. Also how the groomer cuts the face

| I like how she trimmed his feet, the hair should just be rounded slightly covering the edge of his nails, she should have also trimmed and clipped the hair on the underneath part of the paws, if that is not done hair will grow over the little pads. They normally will use little scissors there as well as a razor. I think you are right, let his hair grow out a bit on his back, just to where you see it a little at the edge of his body when he stands and keep the face clipped similar to what you have now. I know with most of my dogs they looked the best with a slightly rounded wedge type teddy bear face and some hair on their back, keeps them looking forever like a puppy. LOL I sit next to my groomer the whole time she cuts my dog now, agonizing over every snip. You are lucky because it really did turn out well. I have seen some horror grooming stories on here and that is what I sort of expected when I started to read the thread.

| He looks precious. I know what you mean about wanting your baby back though. The last time Chloe was groomed, they cut off too much hair. I almost cried. But three weeks later and she looks great.

YT 2000 Club Member | I think he looks handsome! If you really don't like the cut, don't blink because it will grow out so fast! Next time, find a picture of a cut that you would prefer. It helps the groomer to better understand your wishes.

| Oh he looks great! =) When my friend brought her boy in for his first grooming he came back looking like an alien! The groomer left all of the hair on his head really long but shaved down his body and legs to practically nothing! I don't remember what his ears looked like... Anyway, it eventually grew out and he looked better but she never went back to that groomer. Her experience scared me when I brought Blazer in for his first grooming so I explained what I DIDN'T want and showed a picture of what I DID want. I didn't exactly get what I asked for so I started grooming him myself. It really is hit or miss finding what look you love on your own pup! So again, you were blessed to have a great first grooming! =)

| He looks great! Mia is 5 months and its almost time for her first haircut. I am very nervous because I know I won't like her haircut lol I am going to go to the groomer that cuts my other yorkie's hair so hopefully it will turn out okay. I know that first haircut is the hardest. I want to cut it eventually because I am a hairstylist but I also dont want to mess it up!

| He is very cute. I was afraid I was going to see a naked Yorkie! A groomer should be able to cut your dog to whatever length you request. Yes, many Yorkies get the tips of their ears trimmed but that is also something that an owner can request not be done. You might want to search some magazines or online for some Yorkie cuts that you like and take them with you next time you go to the groomer with him. If your groomer dogs not take requests from the customers you might want to look for someone else. |
