| Stinky doggy Jessie is an indoor pee pad trained dog..We are going to try outdoors when the weather is warmer and her complete crate restriction is over... Here is my problem.. she always STINKS...lol she has a pee pad she uses 90% of the time..occasionally she forgets and goes in her sleep/play area..she has a very large segregated crate..(in other words she has her own apartment with bed/living and sep. bathroom) anyway she walks in the pee after she goes...or poop..(she just dragged her latest stinky all through her crate I change her pee pads about 6 times a day..anyway she still stands in it.. I bath her more often than is recomended because she always smells like pee or doogy dander...I cant stand the smell. When we got her she didnt smell like this. It seems ever since her first heat she smells.. Ive tried different shampoos and the infusium her last owner used) it helps for a while but then PU she back to stinking. I dont know if its pee smell or wet doggie smell, she seems to have both. We blow dry her, comb her and now am brushing her teeth (although she hates it) I feed her royal canin. She is very healthy besides the on the mend broken leg..anyone else have this problem? The dander smell is actually tough on my allergies..makes my chest feel tight. I can live with that but have a tough time cuddling "smelly" as she is being called (with love) |

| I wonder if her having gone through her first heat has anything to do with it. Unfortunately I don't have any experience as we have always had our females spayed prior to them going through that. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than mine will be along shortly to be able to help you. I understanding "smelly" and I don't like it either! LOL Good luck!!

| Why is she restricted to her crate? Is she in there most of the time? |

| Did her smelling coincide with her being crate restricted? I mean, I would expect that to be an issue during the time that she has to stay in the crate. You said it happened after her heat, though...was that around the same time as the broken leg or earlier? ETA: Also, I've been following your story - how much longer til she is "free"?

YT 2000 Club Member | Could her smell be from her ears? We have a "smelly" Cocker Spaniel! We keep her hair short and bathe her and the very next day she stinks! She is spayed, so it is not that, either. We air out her ears and clean them, but she is just stinky!

| She is crate restricted due to a broken leg. we are now letting her out and walking around the family room every few hours. Her crate is 5 feet long so she has quite a bit of room. Next wednesday she starts rehab walking outside (she has no trouble with the leg, she wants to run so bad) She broke her leg two weeks after her heat started. (last week of dec was her first heat) As to smelling, I cant pinpoint when it started. Seems like a good 8 weeks though. She was going to be spayed but we had to delay for obvious reasons... |

| I dont know how to clean her ears and havent been able to take her to a groomer because of the leg...so Im applying my long ago cosmetology skills as her groomer..(and I thought doing older womens perms were tough) her hair cuts are getting better... |

| If her heat was so close to when she had to be confined, I am just wondering if it is really because of being confined. I guess you will know more after she's set free. If she still stinks, you may just have to make your rounds on the various shampoo products until you find one that works best for her. As for the ears, I make sure they are the first thing I dry with the blow dryer after Mandie's baths. You can also by some ear cleaning solution that is fast drying. The key is to make sure no water/moisture stays in her ears which could lead to bacterial or fungal infections.

| this is her main crate and her excercise crate..As you can see neither is small. She does have a small crate for when she first had the surgery and for the first 4-5 weeks but we hardly use that anymore. She also has a large crate in my daughters bedroom that she sleeps in at night with a pee pad so I dont have to carry them all over the house. She also has a martha stewart bed she sits in with the girls when they are watching tv so she isnt in a crate all the time...so I dont think its because of confining..I also just sniffed her ears...they smell fine...her breath isnt great, not awful but not great but the toothpaste smells like chicken so that doesnt help.. |

| How are her anal glands? I ask because I know that area can wreak and I recently read that problems THERE can cause smelly breath..
