| ![]() Hi and welcome to YT! I realize that even though you may feel that your pup's "size" is important to you, I'm sure you love your baby and will no matter what "size" it becomes. I'm sorry you didn't realize the type of person you were working with was not the person you thought they were. I'm also sure that your puppy's health is foremost in your mind. All that being said, unfortunately there really is no way to be sure what "size" your pup will grow to be. You can get an estimate using the 12 week rule as stated above as long as you realize is an "estimate". I've not had enough experience with this breed but I have heard this from several members. Just know that we are happy you decided to join us at YT and hope you will enjoy your visits as well. Please post pictures, we love to see each other's pups!! Blessings with your new pup, Diane

IT IS NOT OK for someone to be UNHAPPY with a puppy because of its size! Its ridicoulous that so many people want pocket size puppies to "bond" with by carrying him/her around in a purse. ![]() ![]() ![]() I have a yorkie poodle mix, his parents are only 4 pounds, he grew up to be over 9 pounds! I dont love him anyless because he isnt 4 pounds! Guess what, he still travels with me along with my 4 pound toy poodle who I worry about everyday of my life because she is so small. You should thank your lucky stars that so far he is a healthy 2.1 pounds and not sick instead of worrying about how big he will be!! ![]()

| ![]() Wow! The argument I've heard from questionable breeders is exactly the wording you used about the term "teacup" only being used as an example of size, so I suspect you've heard that before. I don't understand why you are ignoring the arrests and questionable practices of your breeder, and lashing out at our members. Everyone has been helpful and welcoming. You may not want to hear it, but they are right! Yes, we all guess on the adult size, mostly because it seems to be a priority with many. Personally I hate the emphasis on size. I cringe when the 1st question out of someone's mouth is "How Big?" and then "How Much"? When the emphasis should be on health and quality. Your anger is directed in the wrong direction, and should be directed at the "breeder" because you paid way too much for a pet! I am a Show Breeder and have a 5 year health guarantee. My pets are priced almost 1/2 of what you paid.. yes, even for a smaller one. But I don't guarantee size.. It is just a guess, and I work hard to produce healthy, quality Yorkies, not teacups! BTW.. Welcome to Yorkie Talk! Please stay and get to know us, who knows you may like us! ![]() Last edited by Amazing Yorkies; 03-28-2013 at 10:49 AM. |

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() Yes that is so true. That's why it's always important to do your research before buying a dog from someone. |

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() I bought a pup advertised: as a micro teacup. Found out a day later she was a broker/puppumill. Not to mention she was unhealthy, and may have more problems. Have learned a lot from this site. Although I didn't pay full price for my baby, I felt I had to cancel my check to her, and have been trying to shut her down. She doesn't deserve my money or my pup back as she demanded. Hope you're one of the lucky ones and have a healthy pup. I've paid more then what's her worth in vet bills. Health is more important then size, is what I've now learned!

| ![]() Op, I'm going to pretend the fact that you flat out called me a name didn't happen. You came on here looking for help. Otherwise you wouldn't have posted here right? You complain you paid $2k for this pup and that this Julie person might be a broker AND that she's had prior arrests for selling sick dogs. Why don't you take your pup to your vet like we suggested. If your vet finds something that isn't well w your pup, you can get your money back. I don't get why you are giving me such an attitude. We are trying to help you. |

| ![]() First welcome to YT. I have two yorkies Laddy is a little over 5lbs at the moment and Kyra a little under 3, but when they are together because of Kyra having much thicker hair you can hardly tell the difference even though one is almost double in weight of the other. Laddy is such a hardy little man and runs and jumps like a big dog. Kyra is a lot more fragile and has to be watched a lot more. I have people all the time who look at Kyra and tell me "Well mine is a teacup". I have to laugh and say well this one isnt 3lbs how tiny is your "teacup". I even got this when she weighed 2 lbs. I don't understand what people are wanting, maybe one they can put in a shirt pocket?. I do feel you way overpaid for your pup but I sincerely hope that you will have years of enjoyment from all the love I am sure you will recieve from her.

| ![]() You bought a puppy from a broker who lied to you about who the parents of your puppy are. Brokers sell puppies for puppy mills. Puppy mills crank out so many pups that they can't sell them all in one area. They truck some to pet stores and they use brokers around the country to sell some of the rest of their stock. They can't have people come to the filthy mill the pups are raised in so they use a broker. That is why people are so "judgmental" about the person who sold you the pup. A reputable breeder who knows the line they are working with may give an estimate of what they think the mature weight of a pup may be. They can do that because they know what the line has been producing for many generations. A pup that comes from a mill or a backyard breeder has so many uncommon dogs behind it that the gene pool is so large there is just no way to estimate the size the puppies will be. There could be several sizes in one litter. Because of the over breeding of the very popular Yorkshire Terrier there are many genetic weakness that these poor dogs have inherited. Your pup has a very good chance that it could develop one or more genetic problems and is very likely infested with parasites of various kinds. I hope you take it to the vet and be very honest in telling them what kind of a place your puppy came from so they can test and watch for the various issues you and your pet could be facing in the future. Many of these issues do not show up until after they mature while some may manifest right away. I hope you and your pet will be alright. Please do not support people who breed dogs under such circumstances anymore. Please read up on the problems being produced in this breed due to unprofessional breeders. Read up on the conditions that dogs are kept under in puppy mills as well. An informed buyer will help stop the horrible things being done to these wonderful dogs. |
