YT 2000 Club Member | Pad Training? I could really use some input as how to pad train. I have disposible pads and a mat to hold it in place. My other yorkies are outside potty trained. I feel it is too cold to pad train Tatiana, right now! The last couple of days it was fairly warm outside (around 40- 50 degrees) Well, today it is freezing outside with a strong wind! Tatiana can't take the cold since she is so tiny, yet! Please tell me how to do pad training!

| Restrict her freedom to a smallish area with the pad always within easy and speedy reach. The area can be an xpen or a room where you can supervise. Put her on the pad when she wakes up from sleeping, after meals, after playtime or anything exciting. If you see her circling or showing any signs of needing to go, direct her to the pad, or physically put her there. Use keywords and phrases when you put her on the pad like, "Go potty." When she potties on the pad, praise her profusely and give her a small treat. You may want to start with more than one pad lined up, making a larger target. Sometimes that helps.

| Just like with outside training you need to watch your pup for signals and get it to the potty in time. Since your pup is young you do want the pup to be near a pad at all time since it has still not fully developed the ability to hold it's urine. Make sure you keep at least one pad near the door you take your dogs out if you intend to outside train this baby eventually. It will help with the transition to have the potty near where it will be going out. You may even take a pad outside with you if the pup is afraid to potty outside at first. |

| I like to keep mine on a leash during potty training. That way they're always right next to you and you don't miss any potty signals. |

YT 2000 Club Member | Ok, so Tatiana has pooed on the pad but won't potty. I have taken her outside and she goes then!( I found a wind - free spot) She doesn't go potty very often.....maybe once every 3 hours. She sleeps all night without waking to potty, too! She is drinking and eating small amounts every 3-4 hours. How do I know if she is getting enough water? Teeka pottys every couple of hours and Tatiana only goes every 3-4 hours.
