I guess that is far enough out that it is on the edge of where they live or something. Poor squirrel, huh? But I guess Mrs. Hawk and her chicks are filled. The whole nature thing is pretty upsetting, how one has to live off the other.

I have a 100' x 100' fenced in yard and still walk Bentley with a leash. There are coyotes, foxes, hawks, eagles in the area. I won't take a chance with him.

Ya we are kind of surronded by empty land, lots of land big bolders and hills. We are backed up on the land.. We have been hearing the Coyotes a lot lately- it is always about 7:30-8pm they sound like they are in a pretty big pack- you hear them howling, barking and that high pitched yap- DH says that means they are "killing" whatever they hunted. I'm not sure what they could be eating as the Bunnies aren't out yet.. It is really neat to hear, but scary at the same time.

Same here- when we are outside Peanut is on a leash!!

OMG You have Eagles, I love Eagles- I wish I had them here. I watched an Eagle Cam, it was a Momma, Daddy and babies- the cam was up in their nest and it went from hatching to the juveniles leaving the nest- It was so amazing to watch!!

Oh Terri! I have this picture of you in a Mary Poppins type dress holding a bunch of umbrellas with Mandie's fur dyed bright orange like Guinness molhawk is green. I picture stepping out into your back yard with big signs everywhere hawks and owls keep out/not welcome and there is clothes line wire zigzagged right above our heads huge mirrors are posted everywhere along with battery operated scarecrows!!

I hope you aren't offended as I know this is a serious subject and not one to make light of as it could have horrible consequences but for some reason that picture popped into my head and I can't quit giggling!!

There is a pair of Bald Eagles in the area. Personally I haven't seen them. I love watching Eagle Cam, too!

The first time I heard the coyotes I was horrified of what the heck is that in the middle of the night!

Deanna if you like Eagles you would love it here....as a little kid I can remember my dad running to get me so I could see an eagle perched on one of our silos...that was 30 years ago and they were so rare to see. Now we see them on a daily basis. This is kind of gross but we get a lot of dead deer hit by cars along the road side and the eagles eat them. One day there were 6 bald eagles right by the road. I've also seen them swoop down and pick a fish up out of the lake...they are so majestic...but that being said...if one of those buggers tried going for my babies, the war would be on!!!

Oh man, that would be awesome to see- they see our babies as prey, it is our duty from keeping those lovely creatures from having our babies as dinner. As long as we do our part everything will be ok.

Apparently the problem in residential areas is that there are not enough rodents and small game to keep these big birds fed. Too bad someone can't give them a road map to the mountains.

While we do live in a type of wilderness no one takes chances here. I think we have just lived with the situation for so long that it is natural for us not to let the small animals out without being on a short leash. If I lived in a residential area and could not even let my little dog out for a few minutes into a fenced yard I I would be quite upset about the situation.
