| So wanted to give an update....took him to the emergency animal hospital last night and they got to the root of the problem. He has coccidimia. They gave him some sub q fluids with vitamins and a dose of antibiotic to be followed by a second dose next Monday. The challenge now is getting him to eat and drink. He is drinking good on his own but so far today I am having to puree his canned food and give it to him in a syringe. Worry about tomorrow when I need to go back to work. Might try boiling him some chicken and rice later. Anyone have experience with coccimidia? The good news is that he hasnt lost weight. |

YT Addict | I'm not familiar with coccimidia or you mean coccidia? If so I'm surprised it wasn't picked up when your vet did a fecal test. I know it can be brought on by stress and is normally treated with a 10 day dose of Albon. Some breeders treat them for it even if they haven't tested positive just to be on the safe side. I hope this course of treatment does the trick and he is all better very soon, poor little guy. Please keep us posted.

| Yes sorry I did mean coccidia. The regular vet didnt do a fecal test. Needless to say I have now chosen a new regular vet and we are going there today so they can give him some more fluids. |

| I'm glad you got your puppy to the vet. When a puppy has continued hypoglycemic episodes it usually indicates there may be an underlying problem. Hopefully cocicdia is the only other issue. Also continued lack of appetite can bring on dehydration, so I'm sure he was in need of the hydration they gave him. I hope you can get him on a good nutritious diet soon. |

| Just so you know Coccidia doesn't always show up in a fecal. A dog has to have a bad case of it or the eggs must shedding at that moment for the vet to see them. It can drag a pup down. I hope, he is feeling better!

| Wanted to post an update on my little guy. Turns out not only did he have coccidia and roundworms, he also tested positive for giardia!!!! It all totally attacked his red blood cells and his RBC level was down to 10 yesterday (normal is 30 something). He had a blood transfusion yesterday and this morning thank goodness his level was up from 20 after the transfusion to 22. Has been a very long upsetting weak. I had no idea these illnesses even existed. Hoping his levels continue to rise. He is doing great today!!! |

| I'm so sorry that you and your little guy are having go through this. It makes me so angry that breeders sell pups too early and don't give a second thought to the health of theses babies. I pray that all will be good for both of you very soon. Have you spoken with the breeder about all of this?

| Poor little Diesel! At least they finally got to the root of the problem. It sounds like he's on the way to recovery. Is he eating now? Just a suggestion...I know your breeder suggested that you feed him Little Ceasar's, but you may want to look into a better quality food for him...especially since he's been so ill. If he's eating canned, Blue Buffalo is a good canned food & it's available at Petco/Petsmart. Blue Buffalo is just one example of a better quality food. There are a lot of brands out there. Here's a link to a website with some information about puppy food: Best Puppy Foods Good luck! I hope your little baby continues to get stronger & healthier! His pictures are absolutely adorable! He is such a cutie! No wonder you're in love

| Yes he is eating pretty good now on his own. He is getting back to the puppy we had when we first brought him home. I did tell the breeder and was very nice about it. I told her that I just wanted her to know so that she could get her dogs checked and any of the other pups got sick she could tell their owners to get a fecal test ASAP. She was very offended and defensive. Claims the vet tested the pups for coccidosis during their vet check and it was negative. Tried to tell me it can be caused from stress. I explained that stress could make it develop but he had to get the parasite somewhere first and we haven't had him outside nor around other animals. She still said he would have had to gotten it after he left her house, which the vet says is impossible, especially since he has the roundworms that would have come from his mother. This is my first dog and I did nor know the right questions to ask about what the vet tested him for. Also, thanks for the advice on the food. I actually have a can of blue buffalo in the fridge. I tried to gradually switch his food when we brought him home. Tried nutri source and he didn't seem to like that so I tried wellness puppy blend. But after he started getting sick I decided to not worry about switching him right now. I just wanted him to eat. Once he is all recovered and settled in good here I definitely want to make the switch to a better quality food. Thanks for the comments on his pic......everyone at the vets office keeps wanting to take him home |

| Well, you seem pretty smart considering Diesel is your first pup. I think you said all the right things to your breeder. I'm not surprised that she was offended/defensive...whatever. But good for you! I had to have a similar conversation with the "rescue" I got my Momo from. And she wasn't even my first dog. We all live & learn I'm so glad that little Diesel is getting back to being a happy puppy!! And glad that you can finally relax after what seems like a really tough week. Good call on the food switch. You're absolutely right...get him over the hurdle before you start throwing new food in the mix. Now go enjoy your weekend with that adorable little baby of yours
